🧠 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Your mental health matters—this month and every month. Mental Health Awareness Month is a time to break the stigma, start conversations, and prioritize emotional well-being.

💬 Let’s talk about it.
Struggling with your mental health doesn’t mean you're weak—it means you're human. Whether it's anxiety, depression, trauma, or stress, you're not alone, and support is always within reach.

âś… Practice self-care
âś… Check in with loved ones
âś… Reach out for help when needed
âś… Support organizations doing the work

Together, we can create a world where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health. đź’š

Today, we remember and honor all those who gave their lives in service to this country — with deep respect for the Native warriors who have always stood with courage and sacrifice.

Native Americans serve in the U.S. Armed Forces at a higher rate per capita than any other group. This legacy of service is rooted in a long tradition of protecting our people, our land, and our values.

On this day of remembrance, we lift up the names and spirits of our fallen heroes — both Native and non-Native — and hold their families in our hearts.

We honor their memory. We respect their sacrifice. We carry their stories forward.

🕊️ National Missing Children’s Day 🕊️

Today, we raise our voices for the children who are missing — and recommit to protecting every child in every community.

Indigenous children are disproportionately affected by missing persons cases, often without the urgency or attention they deserve. As we observe National Missing Children’s Day, we remember the faces, names, and spirits of our missing Native youth, and we stand with their families in the fight for justice, visibility, and safety.

Every child deserves to be found. Every family deserves answers.
We won’t stop advocating until every child is home.

If you have information about a missing child, please contact local authorities or the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST.

🌍 World Day for Cultural Diversity 🌍

Today we celebrate the richness of cultures around the world — and right here in our own communities.

At the American Indian Center of Arkansas, we honor the strength and beauty of Indigenous cultures, languages, and lifeways. Native nations across Turtle Island carry vibrant traditions that have endured for generations, contributing to the cultural fabric of Arkansas and beyond.

Cultural diversity is not just something to be celebrated — it is something to be protected. When we uplift each other’s stories, we create a more inclusive, respectful, and resilient future.

Join us in recognizing the power of cultural identity, and the importance of preserving it for generations to come.

What did native Americans use sweet grass for?

It's considered a sacred herb, used in purification ceremonies, prayer offerings, and to attract positive energies. Traditionally, sweet grass is braided and burned as smudge, a cleansing ritual meant to clear negativity and promote healing.

🧡 March is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month 🧡

This month, we stand in solidarity with the millions of people worldwide living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS)—a chronic illness that affects the central nervous system and has no known cure.

MS can be unpredictable and invisible, but the strength of those living with it is powerful and inspiring.

💡 How you can help: 🔶 Learn the signs and symptoms of MS
🔶 Support MS research and advocacy efforts
🔶 Share stories to break stigma and build understanding
🔶 Wear orange to show your support!

Let’s raise awareness, foster hope, and work toward a future free of MS. 💪🧡

🌷 Happy Mother’s Day 🌷

Today, we honor the strength, love, and wisdom of all mothers — birth mothers, grandmothers, aunties, caretakers, and matriarchs who guide our families and communities with unconditional love.

In Native cultures, motherhood is sacred. It is through our mothers that traditions are passed, languages are preserved, and values are taught. They are the heartbeat of our homes and the protectors of our future generations.

To the mothers who nurture with strength, lead with kindness, and love with their whole being — we see you, we thank you, and we lift you up today and every day. 💖

🧠💪 May is ALS Awareness Month 💜

This month, we honor the strength of those living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)—a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

đź’ˇ Raise awareness. Inspire action. Support the fight.
ALS may weaken the body, but it never touches the courage and determination of those affected. Let’s amplify their voices and push for more research, better treatments, and ultimately, a cure.

Together, we can make a difference. đź’ś
