Just wanted to take a moment to recognize some of the toughest, most loyal deputies in the Butler County Sheriff’s Office β€” our incredible K-9 Unit.

These magnificent K-9s are more than partners. They are warriors on four legs who stand side-by-side with their handlers every day, ready to track the bad guys, sniff out illegal drugs, locate evidence, and protect their partner without hesitation. When a deputy calls for backup, these K-9s answer the call with unmatched courage, loyalty, and determination.

They train hard, work harder, and their dedication helps keep the citizens of Butler County safe.

Radd, Opie, Kilo, Copper, Thunder, and Polar β€” you are champions, true crime fighters, and valued members of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office family. We are proud of you and grateful for the incredible work you do every single day. πŸΎπŸš”

Today is National K-9 Veterans Day, let us Honor all Military and Working Dogs, including K-9 Joker & K-9 Bane.

On March 13, 1942, the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps began training dogs, establishing the War Dog Program (K-9 Corps). The idea for the holiday was proposed by Joseph White, a retired military working dog trainer, to ensure their service is never forgotten.

Although used informally before, this date marked the formal integration of canine units into the U.S. Armed Forces. Initially, dogs were trained to patrol coastlines during WWII, but roles have evolved to include detection, security, and specialized, high-risk missions. Notable, highly-regarded, and decorated dogs in history include Sergeant Stubby (WWI), Chips (WWII), and Cairo (Navy SEAL).

K9s have served in various capacities, including messenger, mine detection, patrol, and search and rescue. March 13 serves to honor all working dogs, including those in military, police, border patrol, and secret service roles.

We salute 🫑 you all πŸΎπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ working, retired & fallen
