We are pleased to introduce you to our final Path to Recovery Honoree, Reginald Washington

As a young man, Reginald was involved with gangs, lacking the awareness or tools to deal with his anger in alternative ways. This led to a life sentence, serving 16 years behind bars.

Instead of letting his circumstances define him, Reginald chose a path of personal transformation while incarcerated, serving as team leader in creating the Serenity Garden in Donovan Prison, a project of A New PATH.

Since returning to the community, he has dedicated his life to ensuring young people don’t make the same mistakes he did. His impactful work includes founder of Project Aware teaching youth crucial emotional literacy skills; serving as a certified trainer in Restorative Practices and Community Mentorship; a decade of hands-on experience working with at-risk youth. He’s been recognized by the County of San Diego for overdose prevention, San Diego Couty Sheriff’s Department for contributions to the Youth Academy and California Crime Prevention Officers Association for promoting public safety.

Reginald’s journey exemplifies personal transformation and impactful community engagement. A New PATH is proud to honor him with a 2026 PATH to Recovery award.

It’s time to meet our next Path to Recovery Honoree for the 2026 Strut for Sobriety!

Alexis Pleus -

Alexis is a professional engineer, artist, writer and activist, and mother of 3 sons. In 2014, she lost her oldest son Jeff to an overdose and as a result of that experience, founded Truth Pharm 6 months later with a focus on raising
awareness, reducing stigma, educating and advocating to
reduce the harms caused by substance use.
Truth Pharm has impacted legislation, the way our
community views substance use and has gained national recognition for its innovative and community driven creative
solutions to addressing the overdose epidemic.
Alexis has testified at several New York State Legislative Hearings, served on state and national coalitions, testified for Congressional Hearings twice, has been keynote speaker
for many events, spoke at multiple conferences, been included in National media coverage, is featured in several documentaries, articles and books and is the Chair of the
New York State Harm Reduction Association.
Alexis created the Trail of Truth in 2016, which is now a National arts installation event and movement that
memorializes and elevates the devastating loss families face in order to compel change. Truth Pharm’s work is informed and empowered by directly impacted community
members.
