Garden State Model Boaters

Garden State Model Boaters We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 6pm at the Spring Lake Heights Community Center, Corner Static modelers are also welcome.

The Garden State Model Boaters is a radio controlled boat and ship modeling club located in the Spring Lake New Jersey area. Members' interests include scale radio control, fast electric, radio controlled sail, historic craft and other marine craft. We meet monthly, usually on the third Tuesday of the month, at 7:00pm at the Spring Lake Heights Community Center in Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey.

From April-September we have at least one in-water weekend event each month. Each year we also host an indoor spring show, gather with our spouses for an annual dinner, and exhibit our work at several antique and classic boat shows. Our membership runs the gamut from novice kit builders to professional and award-winning modelers. Joining a modeling club is a great way to share information, improve your skills, share information and plans, and get new ideas! Please check out our Events page for our Calendar of Events and meeting dates. The club website at the link below needs to be updated. Trying to get the rights to do that.

December meeting we discussed how to create plans. Rich spoke about the details on the Sea Maid. How to get measurements and how to arrange the frames on the model. One member is building a 54 inch version of the Sea Maid. I spoke how I designed the plans for the Big Marie S and the next model I will be building, the Sea King. Both are 1/24 scale. I also spoke about changing the stick friction on a RadioLink 2.4Ghz transmitter and a little about telemetry.

We had an open topic discussion for the September meeting.
Discussed the following...
Clamps, and this brought up adhesives
Spray painting, from air bushes to rattle cans

I brought a device I made to cut uniform planks with a razor blade
I also brought my Marlin submarine in the transport box fresh from Subfest this past weekend in Cahutta Georgia

Here is a picture of my Marlin and Skipjack sitting on the transport boxes. They fit perfectly across the back seat of our Explorer.

Going forward, I will be trying to post what we will be having discussions on at our meetings to keep this page more active.
