Introducing the UAW Local 1853 Guide!

Your Local 1853 Educational Committee teamed up with Communications to bring you the UAW Local 1853 Guide (v1), your guide to everything about our union.

The Education Committee is responsible for building the power of the labor movement through educating and training members of their local union and we believe this is a great step forward with this guide.

Happy Veteran’s Day from UAW Local 1853!

Some of our Veterans were honored by a special luncheon at the GM Spring Hill MFG facility last week. They were all given a couple of tokens of appreciation for their past or current service to our great country. We would also like to acknowledge Sarah and David for bringing in their amazing and extensive collection of World War II memorabilia.

Special thank you to American Food and Vending for providing our Veterans with a meal.

Today, as tradition at our Local, the Veteran’s Committee held their wreath ceremony to acknowledge our Veterans and remember those who gave their lives for our country.

Please take a moment today to thank a Veteran for their service, and we thank all Veterans for their sacrifices and commitment.

And a special thank you to Jessica for playing the TAP's during the Wreath Ceremony, she always does such an amazing job!

Our hearts go out to our UAW Local 1853 President, John Rutherford, who lost his father unexpectedly last week. Ferrell “Shorty” Rutherford was a true union man, who served faithfully for 30+ years at Local 1112 in Ohio. Our deepest condolences to Brother John and his family.

Shorty was employed at General Motors Lordstown for 46 years, retiring in 2017. During his tenure he was active in the union, serving in various leadership positions including his last the top administrative assistant to the UAW Shop Chairman. In addition to his professional contributions, he was committed to his community.

You can read more about Brother Ferrell Rutherford here: https://www.tribtoday.com/obituaries/2025/11/ferrell-rutherford-1952-2025/

Please offer your condolences in the comments below.

2 Corinthians 1:3-6 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."
