๐Ÿš’ WHERE DO OUR COUNTY COMMISSION CANDIDATES STAND ON PUBLIC SAFETY? ๐Ÿš’

This week, the Hernando County Commission approved the construction of a new fire station, the first additional fire station approved in nearly 25 years despite significant population growth and increasing demand for emergency services.

Current Commissioners, and candidates for re-election, Brian Hawkins and Jerry Campbell supported this important investment in public safety and made their positions clear.

Now, we would like to hear from the candidates seeking these Commission seats:

๐Ÿ“ข District 2 Candidates: โ€ข Silvia Dukes โ€ข Maxwell Joseph Glenn โ€ข James Scavetta

๐Ÿ“ข District 4 Candidates: โ€ข Marvin Baynham โ€ข Jeremy Holmes

If you had been sitting on the County Commission during this vote, how would you have voted?

โœ… YES โ€“ I would have voted to approve the new fire station. โŒ NO โ€“ I would have voted against the new fire station. โ“ OTHER โ€“ Please explain your position.

This isn't a trick question, and it isn't about just politics. It's about emergency response times, firefighter and paramedic staffing, public safety, and the future of Hernando County!

The residents of Hernando County deserve to know where every candidate stands on issues that directly impact the safety of our families, neighborhoods, and visitors.

We invite each candidate to comment below with their answer so voters can make informed decisions before Election Day!

๐Ÿ‘‡ Candidates, the floor is yours.

๐Ÿšจ First off, we want to thank the four County Commissioners who voted in favor of public safety today by supporting the approval of the first additional fire station in Hernando County in nearly 25 years. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’

Commissioners Hawkins, Campbell, Amsler, and Allocco made public safety the priority, and we appreciate their support. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

The lone โ€œnoโ€ vote once again came from the one commissioner opposed to the project, who continues to rant about being able to build it for far less taxpayer money and claims to have โ€œa lot of contractor friends.โ€ Yet throughout this two-year process, nothing has been produced other than repeated complaints about how it could supposedly be done cheaper.

โŒ No competing bids.
โŒ No actual proposals.
โŒ No public comments opposing the need for a new fire station.

Just repeated 3โ€“5 minute rants attacking our public safety departments every chance he gets.
So, if there are any contractors out there who can build a fire station to todayโ€™s standards, one capable of housing up to seven firefighters per day, for under $3 million, we want to hear from you! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐Ÿš’

Because the citizens of Hernando County deserve modern fire stations, properly staffed crews, and the level of public safety that keeps up with the growth of our community. We whole-heartedly support conservative thinking when we can save the taxpayers money, but just because we keep repeating false statements, it doesn't help them come true! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. Memorial Day is more than a holiday, it is a time to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything in defense of them. ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ช This morning, several of our members came together to complete the Murph Challenge in honor of Memorial Day and in remembrance of Lt. Michael P. Murphy and all fallen heroes who gave their lives in service to others. Their effort today was a small tribute to the strength, sacrifice, and commitment displayed by our nationโ€™s heroes every day. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

โค๏ธ We remember the fallen.
๐Ÿค We honor their sacrifice.
๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ And we will never forget.

Thank you Governor DeSantis and all members of the Florida Legislature!

Today, Governor DeSantis signed SB 984 (DiCeglie) relating to Firefighter Cancer Benefits into law. ๐ŸŽ‰

This legislation ensures that firefighters battling terminal occupational cancer can spend their final days at home with their families without jeopardizing their familyโ€™s death benefit.

Beginning July 1, 2026, firefighters and their families will retain access to the cancer death benefit for one year after terminating employment.

Thank you to Senator Nick DiCeglie and Demi Busatta- State Representative for their leadership, and for all the members of the Legislature who supported this important clarification for Floridaโ€™s firefighters and their families. Thank you to Governor Ron DeSantis for signing this good bill into law.

This is an important step forward for firefighter families across Florida we were proud to champion. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿš’

Thank you Chief!

For many firefighters, their tireless service has caused damage to their health, and they are no longer able to serve to the fullest capacity.
