TNWAC recently welcomed a packed room of business leaders, professionals, and globally minded citizens to AllianceBernstein’s Nashville office for a thought-provoking fireside chat featuring Seth Bernstein, CEO of AllianceBernstein, in conversation with Karl Dean.

The discussion tackled one of today’s most pressing economic questions: What impact are tariffs really having on the U.S. and global economy?

From manufacturing and supply chains to inflation and shifting market expectations, attendees gained valuable insight into how economic policy decisions ripple across industries, consumers, and international markets.

A major theme of the evening was uncertainty: how businesses and investors adapt when trade policy, geopolitical tensions, and economic forecasts continue to evolve in real time. The conversation highlighted the growing connection between global affairs and everyday economic realities here at home.

Beyond the insights, the afternoon was a fantastic opportunity for networking and meaningful dialogue among Nashville’s business and civic community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this timely and engaging conversation, and special thanks to AllianceBernstein for hosting this outstanding event.

This week, TNWAC had the unique opportunity to look "Beyond the Alps" and explore the outsized global impact of one of the world's smallest nations - Liechtenstein.

In conversation with Ambassador Sparber, we examined how this innovative country is quietly shaping key sectors of the U.S. economy, from advanced manufacturing to specialized industries.

Perhaps most striking was the reminder that global influence is not defined by size or military strength. Through diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to collaboration, Liechtenstein is actively contributing to economic security and addressing shared global challenges alongside the United States.

At a time when international cooperation is more important than ever, this conversation reinforced a powerful idea: meaningful global impact often comes from unexpected places, and strong partnerships make all the difference.

Thank you, AllianceBernstein, for hosting us, and thank you to everyone who joined us for this powerful conversation. We were especially excited to have a large group of students from Lipscomb University and Vanderbilt University.

This week, TNWAC hosted a dynamic, deeply insightful discussion on lessons from the Cold War and their applicability to today's global environment.

Our featured speaker, Frank Lavin (Parikh Family Fellow, USC Center for the Political Future), discussed the strategies, decisions, and rivalries that defined the Cold War era and continue to influence U.S. foreign policy, great power competition, and global security today.

What made this event especially impactful was the audience engagement, bringing together business leaders, students, and globally minded citizens to examine how military capability connects to broader questions of global stability, deterrence, and leadership.

Thank you, FirstBank, for hosting us, and thank you to everyone who joined us for this powerful conversation. These are the insights that deepen understanding and strengthen our community's connection to the world.

The Executive Director of the Tennessee World Affairs Council (TNWAC) was honored to be invited to attend the 2026 Forum on Growth and Regional Challenges, held on March 20 at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU).

The Forum brought together leaders and experts to reflect on Middle Tennessee’s position as one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States. This growth is driven not only by domestic migration but also by the growing presence of international companies investing in and expanding in Tennessee—a clear indication that our state is becoming an important player in the global economy.

Discussions throughout the Forum emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration at the local level in shaping the region’s future, as well as the need to ensure our workforce is prepared to meet challenges beyond our borders.

During the visit, Dr. Liane Hentschke was introduced to Dr. Sidney A. McPhee, President of Middle Tennessee State University. She also discussed with Dr. Murat Arik and Brad Tammen opportunities for future collaboration between TNWAC and MTSU.
