In preparation for minor coastal flooding from Hurricane Isaias, Hernando County Government is opening a sandbag location at Linda Pedersen Park for the dates and times listed below.

Please bring your own shovel.

🗓️ Thursday, October 8 from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
🗓️ Friday, October 9 from 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Tips on how to properly fill and stack your sandbags:
🔸 Fill bags one-half to two-thirds of the way full
🔸 Over-filled bags will result in a leaky sandbag wall
🔸 Stack sandbags so that the seams between the bags are staggered
🔸 Tuck the top of each bag under to ensure that that bag is sealed by its own weight

🌧️ Storms can bring more than physical challenges — they can also bring anxiety, stress, and uncertainty. Taking a few simple steps before and during a storm can help you feel more prepared and grounded.

Here are 5 simple ways to support your mental wellbeing during a storm:

🧰 1. PREPARE & STAY SAFE
Having an emergency plan, supplies, important contacts, and a safe place to go can help reduce uncertainty and give you a greater sense of control.

🏠 2. CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT
Make your space as comfortable and calming as possible. Keep important items nearby, limit unnecessary noise, and stay connected with people you trust.

📚 3. EDUCATE YOURSELF
Use reliable sources for storm updates and safety information. Understanding what to expect can help reduce fear and prevent misinformation from adding to your stress.

Today was the day! Thanks to our amazing at Campbell & Company , & with the help from our friends at Hernando Sheriff Community Policing - the annual Shred-It Event & Food Drive was a success 📑🥫!

This effort kicked off United Way’s October GIVE THANKS, GIVE FOOD Drive 👏 All month long, United Way and our select collection sites will be accepting non-perishable food items for this county-wide initiative 🤝

🤲Food will be distributed locally throughout November to struggling families, for homeless outreach, and directly to our food pantries and shelters prior to the holiday.

😯Can you believe it's been 2 whole years since (and ALMOST 2 years since )? It feels like yesterday that our community, local businesses, and neighbors responded to the needs of our impacted residents in an incredible way.

🤲2 years later, and believe it or not, individuals and families are still struggling with the aftermath of recovery. Whether they're struggling with physical damages or emotional distress, our teams are here to help.

Thanks to Hernando's Long-Term Recovery Group and our friends at NAMI Hernando, our on-going Hurricane Disaster Relief Survivor Support groups are taking place almost weekly.

This October, United Way of Hernando County is bringing our community together to help make sure our neighbors have food on the table this Thanksgiving season.
