**October 15 is White Cane Awareness Day**
In Florida, White Cane Law states that drivers must come to a full stop when there is a pedestrian using a white cane or dog guide while crossing, or attempting to cross a street or highway.

In observance of White Cane Law & White Cane Awareness Day, teens and children who are visually impaired and blind, their parents, and Mike Wells, Chasco Coronation Ball King Pithla, gathered at the NPR LVIB. They put on blindfolds, and with white canes, they made their way outside and did the obstacle course set up in the Sensory Garden. The experience of walking with a blindfold and white cane was a little disorienting and for those who were sighted, it was helped them understand what it like to be blind and the need for White Cane Law. Thanks to everyone, including staff, for coming to LVIB today! We’re sharing photos and video from LVIB’s WCAD: https://photos.app.goo.gl/BHVuX6tZ2mm92FM89. On November 18, 2022, LVIB is holding the 7th Annual Dining in the Dark where guests will step into the shoes of a Lighthouse client. Dining in the Dark is Lighthouse’s annual Hernando County Fundraiser, which benefits Lighthouse programs for people who are visually impaired and blind.
