Norwegian Ridge Language & Culture Camp

Norwegian Ridge Language & Culture Camp VELKOMMEN! Our main goal is to ensure the wonderful Norwegian language, culture and traditions will be passed on through generations.

Our language camp is set in scenic Spring Grove, Minnesota, the first Norwegian Settlement in Minnesota. All students will learn basic Norwegian Language. Students will also discover Norway through geography, history, music and more at our amazing heritage building while some learning takes us on a tour in the immediate areas in and around our beautiful town. Students will experience hot homemade traditional Norwegian meals and making new friends in a nurturing and supportive setting.

Dag 3: All about Dreki (Dragons)! The kiddos were awesome today, as we dressed in Viking costumes, put on temp dragon tattoos, adorned ourselves with masks and fun accessories, and learned about the old Norse “dragons” Fafnir, Nidhogg, and Jormungand. We also sculpted dragons, created eggshell lairs, made awesome dragon eye necklaces adorned with leather, and even learned how to tablet weave trim in the flag colors! Whew! What a day…again! Also—why not try the hallingdans again—with festive hats! And did we mention how their journals are filling up with more drawings and Norsk vocabulary? Super!

What a great day! We had a morning full of Viking stories, dance, and meaningful community building with Nordic specialists Kari Tauring and Carol Sersland. Our motto comes from old Norse wisdom “Kinsfolk to Kinsfolk should be true.” That’s what we are trying to practice each day!
Other exciting events: Trolls part 2 with Jill and Brit; Rope Making; and a Story Walk or creek walk with sketch/draw session! Check out the story walk for yourself at Trollskogen Park!

Dag 1: We had so much fun! Wow!
We focused on getting to know each other; EVERYTHING trolls; GOATS—met some in Trollskogen park; and even created a pop-up literary trail at said park! Visit to read a delightful children’s story as you find our troll creations!
Tusen takk til Wendi, Josie, Jennine, Kari, Carol, and the Shield Maidens Karen, Diane, and Nancy. Of course, who can neglect the assets we have in Bill, Anastasia and Violet?!
