Giants joins many friends and fans in mourning the passing of Bob Bovee this Monday, pictured here (in cowboy hat) at last year's barn dance at Ye Olde Gray Barn.
Our connection with Bob Bovee and Gail Heil began shortly after they purchased their rural home in Spring Grove. Elementary children came to Giants to learn from Bovee and Heil some American folk songs and learn some steps. Over milk and homemade cookies, Bob and Gail told stories to the children about what the songs meant. That program lasted five years until Gail passed away in May of 2013.
Beginning in 2021, Bob and Pop Wagner began playing for a barn dance in Ye Olde Gray Barn. Various callers joined them on stage. This October, due to Bob's health issues, Pop Wagner led our annual barn dance.
Jim and Karen Gray are grateful for the opportunities to support the elementary programs at Giants and the public dances at the barn, and most of all to call them friends.
Thanks for the music, Bob.
