Spring Creek Sportsmen Club A great place for our community to use for gatherings and education for the future hunter/trappers. We are a family organization that is made for everyone.

Use our facilities and enjoy the privacy. We are located in a quiet, large, and private area. Our shooting range is accessible to all members at anytime. Rentals are held when we receive your deposit. We are a first come first serve rental. We are a great place to cater almost anyone's needs. We are all volunteers that want to see our club carry on the values of a great place for people to gather, enjoy our club, and learn from experienced teachers(PA Hunter/Trapper Safety Course). General Prices are:
$50 deposit and $100 for birthday parties, reunions, receptions, etc... 8 hours or less - all parties must end and be cleaned up by 10pm or a fee of $50 will be collected.
$100 deposit and $200 for stag n' drags or weddings.. more than 8 hours -closed and cleaned up at noon the next day or after that a fee of $100 will be collected
Special events will be agreed upon from all active members for a price change. Thank you for your support!

“Does this black fur make me look fat?”

There’s a reason National Park Service calls it Fat Bear Week.

PA black bears are putting on the pounds for winter. And no, they don’t need your leftovers.

Human food attractants can be very tempting as the days get colder and shorter, making it that much more important to stay BearWise.

Simple efforts like cleaning your BBQ grills, securing compost areas, latching trashcans, containing livestock, taking birdfeeders inside, and winterizing your summer gardens can help keep your property a “no-bear-food zone.”

While bear archery season is underway in WMUs 2B, 5C, and 5D, there’s not quite the crisp, cool autumn air we all hope for.

If you harvest a bear on an unseasonably warm day, plan ahead and take extra precautions to prevent spoilage. Here are some tips to help keep you ready for that exciting harvest:
- Place a 3- to 4- inch stick in the bear’s mouth, before rigor mortis sets it, to aid in the check process.
- Once you tag your bear, field dress immediately to begin the cooling process.
- Consider removing the hide and quartering your bear to help meat cool faster.
- If not quartering, consider a game cart, drag sled, or tarp to speed up transport.
- On warm days, pack ice inside of the carcass to aid in cooling.
- Keep your bear off the ground to aid in cooling.
- If using a processor, be sure to check ahead of time they accept bears for processing.

As a reminder, all harvested bears are required to be checked within 24 hours by the Game Commission. Only the bear’s tagged head and hide, along with your licenses, are required to be checked. For these early seasons, call 1-833-PGC-HUNT for instructions to have your bear checked. Be sure to also know the date, time, and approximate location of the harvest.

By being prepared, you can ensure your hunt is not only memorable, but you stay safe and healthy too.

Have you heard about the changes this year?

New regulations require ALL state game lands users NOT engaged in hunting, trapping, or fishing to wear fluorescent orange from October 1 through January 31.

Users are required to wear a minimum of 250 square inches of fluorescent orange on head, chest, and back combined OR a fluorescent orange hat.

Here are some extra tips for enjoying state game lands this fall:

- If you have a pet with you, we highly recommend a vest, harness, leash, or bandana.

- Backpacks can limit your 360 degrees of visibility. Add a bandana or covering to your backpack to ensure you're seen.

- Even if you’re horseback riding, you’re REQUIRED to meet orange requirements, regardless of safety equipment being worn. It’s suggested to have orange on your horse as well.

Our goal is to ensure ALL users, hunters and non-hunters alike, are as safe as possible on state game lands 365 days a year!

Congratulations to another graduating class of Pennsylvania Hunter/Trapper Education students. The teachers and the game commission will have a whole new system and setup for our next class in spring. We can’t wait to see what it is like and see you attend. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but can a seasoned hunting dog or maybe the dog’s handler teach you something new?

That could be the case this fall if you’re looking for a new hunting adventure!

Beginning in the 2026-27 seasons, the Game Commission has expanded what was formerly known as junior pheasant hunts to include junior and all mentored hunters this fall with mentored pheasant hunts.

Mentored pheasant hunts are designed to provide new hunters with a unique opportunity to gain experience outside of deer hunting. Hunters can register for free events that are hosted by sportsmen’s clubs across our state. These host clubs will often provide mentors, hunting dogs with their handlers, and additional opportunities the day of the event.

These events are open to all resident and nonresident junior hunting license holders and mentored permit holders.

All hunters will need a pheasant hunting permit — there is no additional cost for junior and mentored hunters under the age of 17 and a $26.97 cost for those 17 and older.
