Breaking:Break Away Barge Heading Towards I-40 Bridge in Benton County

Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher tells TRVN that a barge has broken loose on the Tennessee River and is expected to strike the I-40 bridge that crosses the Tennessee River.

The sheriff said that all traffic on I-40 will be closed soon, both directions of travel will be affected.

Travelers are advised to use alternate routes and use exits 143 or 126.

Once the barge hits the bridge, inspectors will have to clear the bridge before it reopens.

Earlier today seven semi trucks were toppled by the winds on the bridge located near birdsong.
