A Passion for Sewing: Willow’s Journey

Willow, an adorable 11-year-old, has discovered a true love for sewing. What began as simple curiosity—watching and learning—quickly grew into something much more. Over time, she gained the confidence to use an embroidery machine and, after saving money from a craft show, proudly purchased her own sewing machine.

With creativity and determination, Willow began taking on bigger projects, even using a borrowed mid-sized machine to bring her ideas to life.

One of her most meaningful creations has been her “heart hugs.” With the help of her family, she carefully stitched them together in batches of 32, putting time, patience, and love into each one. The entire project took about 80 hours, with family joining in—especially during a Mother’s Day gathering—to help cut and prepare the pieces.

Each heart hug is a small but powerful reminder that someone cares—made especially for Camp Dallas kids.

Willow is 11 years old—and already making a beautiful impact.

Michelle Harris Adams and I were truly honored to be invited by Louisa Blanchard to attend the Annual Impact Central Illinois meeting. It was such a joy to be in a room filled with so many generous, kind, and inspiring women who are making a difference in our community.

Moments like these are a beautiful reminder of the power of connection, compassion, and shared purpose.

The Purpose Behind Stocking the Lakes

We will be purchasing feed-trained largemouth bass and hybrid stripers for Atherton Lake, where Camp Dallas is situated. This initiative aims to enhance both the catch rate and the average size of fish that our campers can catch.

Additionally, stocking the lakes will provide valuable support to our local high school bass teams that practice on Atherton Lake.

Today, our founders, Dwayne and Patty, are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.

They serve as an incredible inspiration to countless individuals.

When asked how they wish to commemorate this special occasion, they naturally think of giving back. Their plan is to organize a fundraiser to restock the large lake at Camp Dallas, ensuring that every line cast guarantees a fish for every child who attends camp.

Day 2 of

Have you ever wondered what it means to be a Big?

Join us for our 60 Bigs in 60 Days Kickoff Happy Hour on Thursday, June 11 from 4:30–6:30 PM at Analytical Brewing!

Come hang out with our team, enjoy one of Peoria's newest spots, and learn more about our flexible volunteer opportunities. Whether you're ready to become a mentor or just curious to learn more, we'd love to meet you!

Did you know? Research shows that Littles in our program are more likely to graduate high school, build stronger relationships, and gain confidence for the future. And the best part? It only takes a few hours each month to make a lasting impact in a young person's life.

Bring a friend, ask questions, grab a drink, and see how you can help us reach our goal of recruiting 60 new Bigs this summer!
