Foster Care Closet of Jackson exists to meet immediate, practical needs so foster parents can focus on helping a child feel safe, seen, and cared for. We run almost entirely on community support.

It is never a good day when children are separated from their parents.
But when family and other loved ones are able to step in, we are eager to support and show up to make things just a little easier.
We are grateful for families who say yes and for our amazing supporters and volunteers who mobilize quickly when a need arises.

Sometimes the numbers can be overwhelming. 400,000 kids in foster care in the U.S. is hard to grasp. But here are the hard numbers for Jackson County from fostercaredata.cafo.org. Jackson's ratio of licensed foster homes to children in care is below both the state and national average. 59 licensed homes and 189 kids in care.

What a child wears matters. For better or for worse, clothes are so much more than just clothes.
They represent so much:
-a sense of belonging (do I look like my peers?)
-personal dignity and confidence (do I feel good in what I am wearing? does it fit?)
-stability (am I comfortable and do I feel like me?)

These things are all the more important for a child in foster care.

That is why we at the Foster Care Closet of Jackson seek to provide high-quality, like new or new items to our kids. It’s not about the name brands. It is reminding a child that they matter. How they feel matters. The way they look matters. That they are worthy.
