07/06/2026
To our teams participating in our events. Last week, a Teamapp push notification was sent to team members who participated in our 2026 first two series tournaments, informing you of the need to cancel our events. Now that things have settled a bit, we wanted to make a post in case anyone missed the notification. Our family has been in a whirlwind since the end of January, with Melissa having sepsis from a kidney stone surgery, which required two hospitalizations, home IV infusions, and close monitoring. As she was two days away from completion of the antibiotics, she had a heart attack due to 'widow maker' blockages requiring three stents, potentially precipitated by the sepsis. She is tough and pushed through to begin our season at the end of May. Within a short period after the first two events, severe symptoms took her back to the ER for admission, cardiac catheterization, and urgent open-heart surgery. Hours after the open-heart surgery, she had a life-threatening drop in her blood pressure, requiring the ICU team to do what they do best, with the cardiac surgeons being called back in for a possible return to the operating room. A pure miracle took place in that room as the team stood by her bed deciding what to do; their exact words were, 'A miracle took place in this room.' Her blood pressure came up to life-sustaining levels, and her chest tubes began draining fluid away from her heart. By the pure grace of God, we have her back home with us to begin a three-month recovery. While we are sad to cancel the tournaments, our family must focus on getting her better. We do plan to hold a Junior State Championship at some point, with the help of gracious volunteers, to get Junior teams qualified for 2027 Junior Worlds combined as a high school series tournament to qualify high school teams for 2027 SAF High School Nationals.
The date and location will be determined at a later date but will be announced. Right now our focus is on Melissa and our family.
Please keep her and our family in your prayers!
Thank you
