🎶 Music carried on into the evening at Spooner Railroad Park! 🌅

The YOUNI-T Stage brought people together for an evening of making music and celebrating community. From an interactive drum jam to an open mic where local musicians stepped into the spotlight, the evening captured the spirit of Make Music Day—inviting everyone to make music together. The celebration wrapped up with a great performance from The UnLucky 7s.

A huge thank you to YOUNI-T for organizing such a fun, welcoming evening of music and to everyone who performed, participated, and cheered each other on.

We'd also like to extend our sincere thanks to the City of Spooner for allowing us to use Spooner Railroad Park. Community partnerships like this help make free, live music accessible to everyone.

🎶 **Make Music Day Spotlight: Better Together Band** 🎶

One of the highlights of Make Music Day Spooner & Shell Lake was the Better Together Band, a group of like-minded musicians who simply love making joyful music together. Year after year, they continue to grow, and it was a pleasure to have them share their talents with our community.

Their performance at the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum created the perfect opportunity to enjoy live music while exploring one of our area's most unique cultural treasures. The museum is the only one in the United States dedicated exclusively to preserving and sharing the rich heritage of the North American canoe, making it a truly special place to experience both music and history.

A heartfelt thank you to the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum for hosting this Make Music Day performance and helping bring live music into our community.

Thank you to the Better Together Band for bringing your enthusiasm, musicianship, and happy noise to Make Music Day Spooner & Shell Lake! 🎵

🥁 Make Music Day Spotlight: Bucket Drumming & Steel Drums at the Beach

Rhythm was front and center during Make Music Day 2026 Spooner & Shell Lake with two fun, hands-on experiences.

Participants had the opportunity to try bucket drumming, learning basic rhythms through games, activities, and making music together. No musical experience was needed—just a willingness to jump in and have fun.

Visitors also enjoyed the unique sounds of the steel pan while learning about its fascinating history as the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. After the presentation, many had the chance to get a closer look at the instruments and even try playing a few notes themselves.

A special thank you to Aimee Kringle for sharing her knowledge, enthusiasm, and musical talents with our community. We appreciate all you did to help make Make Music Day a success!

Thank you to the City of Shell Lake, Wisconsin for making this beautiful public space available for Make Music Day. Spaces like these help bring neighbors together to celebrate live music and make our community part of this worldwide celebration.

What an incredible Make Music Day!

On June 21, our communities came alive with music as musicians of all ages and experience levels shared their talents in parks, libraries, businesses, and gathering spaces throughout Spooner and Shell Lake.

Thank you to every musician, venue, volunteer, photographer, and community member who helped make this day so special. Make Music Day comes to life because our community chooses to celebrate together.

Over the next several days, we'll be sharing photos and highlights from many of the wonderful musicians and groups who participated, so stay tuned—you might even spot yourself!

Thank you for helping us ring in summer through music. We can't wait to celebrate with you again next June 21! 🎶💙

International Make Music Day is also International Yoga Day.
Stacie Haus of Ohm Haus Studio in Spooner will conduct an Outdoor Restorative Sound Bath event.
(Canceled if raining.)
June 21st
10:00 am – 11:00 am

Slow down and unwind with a gentle outdoor sound bath. Relax as singing bowls, tuning forks, chimes, and other soothing instruments create a peaceful space for rest, renewal, and a nervous system reset.

This event will be held at the Spooner Elementary School Amphitheater. Park in the Spooner Elementary School's front entrance parking lot (located across from Division St.) and follow the paved walking trail straight past the playground and tree line. The event will be on your right hand side. Participants will need to bring either a yoga mat or a blanket to lay on, and any additional items to help them be comfortable such as a pillow(s), leg bolster, a light-weight blanket to cover up with, sunscreen, and water. There will be a canopy put up for shade.

Bucket Drumming at the Beach
June 21st 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Join us for a high-energy, hands-on bucket drumming experience on the shores of beautiful Shell Lake! This interactive session is designed for participants of all ages and musical backgrounds. Using simple plastic buckets and drumsticks, attendees will learn fundamental drumming techniques, explore rhythm through engaging games and activities, and perform exciting group grooves together.

Participants will discover how rhythm serves as the foundation of music while developing listening skills, coordination, teamwork, and creativity. Through call-and-response patterns, body percussion, and collaborative drumming challenges, everyone will become part of the music-making process. No previous musical experience is required—just a willingness to participate and have fun!

Whether you’re a young child, a parent, a grandparent, or simply someone who enjoys music, Bucket Drumming at the Beach offers a joyful and welcoming opportunity to experience the power of rhythm in a beautiful outdoor setting. Come make some noise and celebrate Make Music Day with your community!

PANtastic! Steel Drums at the Lake
June 21st 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Travel to the Caribbean without leaving Shell Lake! This engaging presentation and performance introduces audiences to the unique sounds and fascinating history of the steel pan, the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago and the only acoustic instrument invented in the twentieth century.

The session features live performances of popular, traditional, and contemporary music on the steel drums while exploring the instrument’s remarkable journey from discarded oil barrels to sophisticated musical instruments played around the world. Participants will learn about the cultural traditions of Trinidad and Tobago, the invention and evolution of the steel pan, and how different types of pans work together to create a complete steel orchestra.

Following the presentation, audience members will have an opportunity to get an up-close look at the instruments, learn how they are constructed and tuned, and briefly try playing a few notes. Whether you are a music enthusiast or simply curious about this unique instrument, PANtastic! Steel Drums at the Lake offers an educational and entertaining musical experience for all ages.
