Washington State Fallen Heroes Project

Washington State Fallen Heroes Project Our Mission: Honor and Remember fallen military heroes from WA and N Idaho, support the families left behind, engage communities in doing both.

Heroes aren't forgotten until their names are no longer spoken, and that won't happen on our watch. The FHP creates large banners of post 9/11 Fallen Heroes that are carried in parades and posted at events throughout the northwest. To request one for your Hero, please visit http://www.marchforthefallen.com/we-remember.html. The Project also invites you to visit Illuminating Courage, a post 9/11 Fa

llen Heroes Memorial located at 720 W Mallon Ave, Spokane. The names of PNW Fallen Heroes are engraved inside, and pavers are available for purchase to honor a friend or loved one who has served. More info at www.IlluminatingCourage.org. March for the Fallen is held each September in Spokane. It's a 5, 10 or 15k event that honors our Fallen Heroes and encourages the community to come and see the names and faces of those who raised their hand to serve, and remember the sacrifice that's sometimes asked. May they be forever remembered and may we always be forever grateful!

Hey everyone,

We wanted to share this important update received from Riverside State Park:

“Due to the recent fires that have impacted large areas of Riverside State Park, most areas of the park and trail system are closed. Currently, we do not have an estimate for reopening. A thorough assessment of all impacted areas must be completed before we can safely allow visitors to enter.

For this reason, we are cancelling events scheduled in the park through the end of September.”

This means that March for the Fallen won’t take place in the usual area, but we want you to know we are already looking at other options and will share more information soon.

For now, we’re still planning that March for the Fallen will take place on September 12, 2026.

StaySpokaneStrong friends. Our hearts are with all those impacted by the wildfires and we are here to assist wherever we can.

Our newsletter is delayed this month due to current wildfire evacuations in Spokane and not yet knowing the impacts to future events. But we wanted to be sure and share our Heroes for the month and let their friends and families know we will never forget. These Heroes are posted daily on Illuminating Courage.

If you've been impacted by the fires, resources are available and we are here to help. We stand SpokaneStrong together, just like our Fallen Heroes did for us. ❤️‍🩹

Spokane area updates:

1) Firefighters, First Responders, Military Members, Utility Workers and all those helping to mitigate the Spokane fires...
You have our UTMOST gratitude and respect. We're sorry when stress gets in the way of basic human kindness. Thank you for all you're doing to put out the fires and keep people and property safe.

2) If you have been impacted by the fires in any way, mental fatigue and stress included, we are learning of more and more resources that can help. Please reach out.

3) We are/will be evaluating March for the Fallen once we have a better idea of the impacts to Riverside State Park and our community partners. But we do know it will take place somewhere, and as well as re-supplying Newby-ginnings of North Idaho, Inc. food pantry, we will be using proceeds to assist fire victims in the Spokane area.

4) When we can get back to the Fallen Heroes office, we'll let you know. We're working on some joint assistance projects with Veterans Community Response and CORE and will be able to share more towards the end of the week.

Thank you again to all who are already helping in the ways that you can. Neighbors helping neighbors makes all the difference. We'd love it if you share the good, positive things you've been seeing! We need it!

Please check in friends and families and let us know you’re safe and what we can do to help. ❤️‍🩹

Honoring & Remembering Heroes, Supporting Families, and Engaging Communities in doing both has always been our Mission, and that mission got a big lift from a wonderful community partner this week. We can't thank you enough for helping us accomplish that in all the most important ways, Numerica Credit Union! We're humbled and grateful, and so glad so many of our Gold Star/Surviving families could come out for the presentation. 💚🇺🇸💙

Numerica also provides the opportunity for businesses and non-profits to put up displays for a month in each of their branches, and this month it's us at the Five Mile location. Hope you'll stop by and see, and tell them thank you while you're there!

It's pretty wonderful when new community partners come on board as sponsors for March for the Fallen. Their partnership says, "This is important to us, too." 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

And it will be TASTY for you, because one of our newest partners is Kona Ice of Spokane! Yes, there will be Shave Ice at the finish line this year!

But you have to register first 😅: https://runsignup.com/.../WA/NineMileFalls/MarchfortheFallen
Still just $30, and $20 for 12 & under!

If you have a Fallen Heroes Project or March for the Fallen event shirt, chances are you might feel like you know this couple because their name is in all the places we are. 💙

But the truth is, that's all our doing. Some of the most meaningful support actually happens quietly.

Like the donations we recently received for both the FHP and the March. One will keep our lease paid for the next year, and the other is the reason we're able to keep March for the Fallen registration so low.

And the quiet people behind this tremendous investment in our Mission? John & Kathy Nydegger.

Today, we'd like to recognize these longtime donors who have faithfully supported both the Washington State Fallen Heroes Project and March for the Fallen for many years. They never seek recognition, rarely stand in the spotlight, and simply give because they care deeply about honoring our fallen military heroes and supporting the families they left behind.

Because of generous supporters like the Nydegger's, remembrance events happen, Gold Star/Surviving families are supported, and the legacies of our Heroes continue to be honored.

John & Kathy, your kindness, humility, and unwavering commitment make a difference far beyond what most people will ever see. We are incredibly grateful for your continued support and the heart you bring to this mission. Thank you for standing with us and helping ensure that our fallen heroes are never forgotten. 🇺🇸❤️
