Westminster United Church of Christ

Westminster United Church of Christ Westminster is an enthusiastic congregation where ALL are welcome! We are Open and Affirming! We know that there is a place for you here!

Westminster is an enthusiastic, welcoming and growing downtown Spokane church, rich in history without being stuffy. It is an Open and Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ and a Progressive Christian community. We celebrate our covenant connection with 83 other UCC churches in the northwest through our Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Church of Christ. Westminster’s mot

to is: “No matter who you are or where you are in your faith journey, you are welcome here” and the church members and friends, staff and pastor strive to live out that welcome every day. Vital ministries of service, and seeking justice, warm hospitality, creativity, beauty, dialogue, question and discussion, are all valued at Westminster. Westminster folks are babies, children, working folks, retired folks and honored elders. We are straight, gay and transgendered, rich and poor, the sick and the well, the introvert and the extrovert. There are small interest groups that meet around books, music, poetry, art, women’s concerns, men’s concerns, parenting concerns, bible study, spiritual growth and practices, ecology and sustainability to name just a few! We encourage people to study and learn more about what interests or concerns them, and to share their learning with the rest of us!

Reminder: this Sunday we will be worshiping in Manito Park by the upper splash pad! If it's very smoky, we will worship at Westminster, so keep an eye out for an email update!

ESG is supplying hot dogs and buns, so be sure to bring a side, snack, or dessert for our Manito potluck barbecue!

Thank you for voting yes for buses, and for showing the multimillionaires that they can’t buy votes! Here’s to 20 more years of funding great public transit! 🥳

to the Apple Blossom Tea! At the end of spring each year, our Joanna Chapter puts on a delightful tea service in our Social Hall in a nod to the tradition of the first Westminster pastor's wife holding tea get-togethers! It's a wonderful occasion each year to drink tea, have delicious snacks, and dress up! Thank you Amy for taking lovely photos!

This Saturday, from 10 AM to 12 PM, join Pastor Bob and members of the Spokane Alliance to knock on doors and make sure people have accurate information on the STA ballot measure. The Spokane Transit Authority is running one of the most efficient transit systems in the country, serving lots of riders, and doing it with admirable fiscal responsibility. Opponents are trying to use this against them. People in Spokane and our region depend on a well-funded public transit system. Westminster's Covenant with the Environment, adopted by a congregational vote in 2022, calls us to mobilize for public transit, among other issues. Reliable public transit is safer, healthier, and more cost-effective than continued car-centric development.

Jesus was a pedestrian. Mark 11:1-3 shows Jesus having to "borrow" a donkey to get into Jerusalem. If he were alive today, he'd be on the bus!

Nowadays, one of the most common questions Salish School of Spokane founder LaRae Wiley hears while speaking Salish with her grandchildren on the streets of Spokane is surprisingly simple:
