đź’ś Support Is a Superpower: Meet Prosparetti Coleman, a Medicaid-Approved Doula Changing Maternal Health in Washington State
At The Shades of Motherhood Network, we believe that support is a superpower.
And today, we’re celebrating one of our most trusted partners — Prosparetti Coleman, a Washington State Medicaid-approved doula, advocate, and the Founder of I Hear You SIS in Spokane, WA.
For the past three years, Prosparetti has been a powerful collaborator and community builder alongside Shades of Motherhood, helping to shape a model of care that centers love, listening, and liberation.
🌿 A New Chapter in Maternal Health Equity
In the United States, Medicaid covers over 40% of all births, and more than 60% of births among Black and American Indian/Alaska Native women (MACPAC, 2023).
That means Medicaid isn’t just a policy — it’s a lifeline.
By welcoming doulas like Prosparetti Coleman into Medicaid systems, Washington State is helping lead a national shift: recognizing that preventative, culturally grounded care saves lives.
Prosparetti represents the heart of that movement — providing hands-on, heart-centered support to birthing people and families who need it most.
🤰🏾 Why Medicaid-Approved Doulas Matter
For Black and Brown birthing people, the journey to birth is too often marked by disparities, bias, and systemic barriers.
But doulas bring something deeply human to the table — connection, advocacy, and care before crisis begins.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (ASPE):
Doula care reduces the likelihood of preterm births and low birthweight.
It improves birth experiences and outcomes.
It lowers costs for healthcare systems by preventing complications.
When Medicaid recognizes doula work, it isn’t just paying for a service — it’s investing in prevention, dignity, and community care.
🖤 Prosparetti’s Impact
As a Medicaid-approved doula and Founder of I Hear You SIS, Prosparetti has built a reputation for creating safe, affirming spaces where women — particularly Black and Brown mothers — are seen, heard, and supported.
Through her partnership with The Shades of Motherhood Network over the past three years, she has:
Supported dozens of families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum transitions
Led conversations around maternal mental health and community healing
Modeled what compassionate, culturally informed care truly looks like
Her work is rooted in cultural understanding, trust, and empowerment.
She helps mothers find their voice, feel seen, and make informed decisions about their bodies and births.
That’s not just care — that’s transformation.
📚 Medicaid as the Beginning of Change
Medicaid is not the solution to the maternal health crisis — but it’s a powerful beginning.
It opens the door for doulas to bring relational, emotional, and educational support into spaces that have too often lacked compassion and cultural safety.
When we say support is a superpower, we mean it.
Every time a doula like Prosparetti shows up, a family’s story shifts from survival to strength.
