Early Detection of Vision and Hearing Issues: Vision and hearing problems in children can often go unnoticed without proper screening. Detecting these issues early can prevent potential learning difficulties and developmental delays.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, early detection and intervention for vision and hearing problems are essential for children's optimal development (AAP, 2021).
Impact on Learning and Development: Vision and hearing are fundamental senses that play a significant role in a child's learning and overall development. Undetected vision or hearing issues can lead to academic struggles, speech and language delays, and social challenges.
Research published in Pediatrics indicates that children with untreated vision or hearing problems are at higher risk for academic underachievement and behavioral issues (Ying et al., 2018).

Accessibility to Education: Identifying and addressing vision and hearing problems early can ensure that children have equal access to education and learning opportunities. Screening programs in preschool settings help identify children who may need further evaluation and intervention.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association emphasizes the importance of early identification and intervention for hearing loss to support children's communication skills and academic success (ASHA, n.d.).
Prevention of Long-Term Consequences: Early intervention for vision and hearing issues can prevent long-term consequences and improve outcomes for children. Timely detection allows for appropriate treatment and support to minimize the impact of these conditions on a child's life.

A study published in JAMA Ophthalmology suggests that vision screening programs in preschool settings can significantly reduce the prevalence of amblyopia (lazy eye) and other vision disorders among children (Wallace et al., 2018).
In conclusion, preschool vision and hearing screening are essential components of early childhood healthcare. By identifying potential issues early and providing appropriate interventions, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

Unfortunately/fortunately our club does better than these leader dog pups!

No matter how hard we try, we can’t get the puppies to practice proper social distancing.

Photo description: 5 yellow Labrador retriever puppies sleeping nuzzled up next to each other on a blue elevated bed inside Leader Dog's campus. 3 of the puppies are sprawled out on their backs, another is lying on its side and the last is lying on its side but has its head off the side of the bed.
