Finicky, the bear grass plant takes its sweet time to shoot a bloom. Every five years or so, the flowers have a strong showing in the subalpine slopes of Mount Spokane. Its tall white flowers overtake meadows, almost giving the impression of snow."

Whether you're hiking, exploring, or simply soaking in the scenery, summer is a great time to reconnect with the trails before they're covered in snow once again.

🌲 Mount Spokane State Park Planning Update 🌲

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will consider an important agenda item related to the future of Mount Spokane State Park on Thursday, July 9 at 9:00 a.m.

The Commission will review proposed land classifications, long-term park boundaries, and the park’s Master Plan. This is part of the ongoing public process for planning the future of Mount Spokane and its recreation opportunities.

This meeting is part of the public process for long-term planning at Mount Spokane State Park.

SUGGESTED ITEMS TO COMMENT ON THAT WILL SUPPORT SPOKANE NORDIC SKI ASSOCIATION AND THE NORDIC SKI AREA

1. Implement Long-Term Boundary (“LTB”) action 4, to expand the LTB to include a significant portion of the Nordic Ski Area that currently lies outside the LTB.

2. Implement Land Classification 4, to classify Nordic Ski Area lands in the LTB as Resource Recreation.

3. Approve Nordic skiing as a conditional activity on the existing trail within the Ragged Ridge Natural Area ("RRNA”) consistent with the RRNA Management Plan.

4. Promptly modernize, renovate, expand, and enhance Selkirk Lodge and related parking as described in Phase I of the Master Plan Project Actions.

Modernize electrical, renovate restrooms, expand footprint to include classroom space for facilitating lessons and events. Accessibility improvements. Expand and enhance parking. Integrate new interpretive elements in and around lodge. Consider solar and electric charging station components. Remove vault toilet (and relocate to other location where needed) and keep lodge open year-round for public use. Provide additional storage space in the expansion. Note: Cabin pod (See Phase 3) could be included in this scope dependent upon funding availability and staff determination.

4 inches of fresh snow on the mountain!!!

Hello Mount Spokane State Park Nordic Community,

As you may have guessed, barring significant additional snowfall, our Nordic grooming season has come to an end. The recent warm temperatures and rapidly melting snow has made continued grooming problematic. Hats off to our fabulous grooming team of Captain Ginge, Juan Grande, and Husky Dave for their wonderful work in challenging conditions this year. We are fortunate to have such talented groomers as part of our State Parks team.

Thank you also goes out to our valiant volunteer groomers who tended to the trails when there was insufficient snow for our big machines. The early part of the season was only made possible by their efforts.

Thanks also to the Spokane Nordic Ski Association for all the work they put into supporting and growing this tremendous sport. Hundreds of volunteer hours are contributed each year to make the Mount Spokane Nordic Ski Area the special place that it is. Your efforts are appreciated.

Finally, thank you to our park visitors. Despite weak snowfall and dubious weather conditions, you continued to show up to enjoy the trails. It is our pleasure to try and consistently provide the best possible skiing conditions that we can possibly produce, and we can’t wait until next winter.

It’s dirty in spots but you can easily pick your way thru … skate deck was very good Linder (once you get past junction 1) .. moose climb was very very good .. worth the trip up

GROOMING CONDITIONS REPORT 3/23

Good Monday Morning. Come up and ski if you have the time. It really groomed out nice, way better than it did last night. There is still debris, bare spots, and icy spots to watch out for. The runs that we have not touched could have some snow or nothing at all. Have a great day out there time is limited with the weather and conditions.

GROOMING CONDITIONS REPORT 3/22

Goood Sunday Morning. Come up and enjoy it while you can. It was much colder tonight so it didn’t groom great but it is skiable. The track setters didn’t go as deep as normal so the classic may be tough in spots. Be careful on the trails that we groomed there is still tree debris and snirt ( snow in the dirt) spread throughout the trails. There are still some icy spots also. If you go to the trails we have not groomed no guarantee how much snow is on them. Have a great day out there. The moose 🫎 are having a great time out on the trails also.

Bring your muddddd boots for the lot and the road to the Selkirk is still really soft

GROOMING CONDITIONS REPORT 3/21

Good Morning Mt Spokane Nordic Community. You will need your Swiss army knife of gear today. You will need your 4-wheel drive to get up the Selkirk road. Nik put a couple loads of gravel on it so hopefully it holds up. You will need your mud boots to get across the lot, skis and poles, ice skates to skate across some of the icy spots and hiking boots if you want to try to ski Mica or any of those outer runs. The inner runs are holding up, but a lot of tree debris and icy spots. The runs that we where able to groom turned out really nice. Please come up and enjoy while you can. We will try our best to groom what we can. Sorry for the dirty snow by Selkirk I put some snow there from the edges to help build up in front of the building. Have a great day out there.

GROOMING CONDITIONS REPORT 3/20

It’s Friday morning and I am sorry to say we did not groom last night. With the warm weather and rain we decided to hold off. We will see what we can do tonight and over the weekend so you can come up and enjoy the last couple days of skiing.
