On Monday February 3rd 2025, we received an updated Club Manual from the ASWU Club Coordinator. The most notable change is an expansion on Whitworth’s s*x talk policy, this can be found on page 10. This policy was written in direct response to our club’s presence and action (like hosting s*x in the dark).
This addition was written by current Whitworth president, Scott McQuilkin and campus pastors, Forrest Buckner and Lauren Taylor. It was emailed on December 13 2024 to members of Student Life, Rhosetra Rhodes and Krista Maroni. On December 16 2024, Assistant Dean, Todd Sandberg sent it to the ASWU club coordinator.
This addition to the club manual was not discussed with or voted on by any ASWU representatives. If ASWU truly stands by their mission statement then how was this policy implemented without any student input as it impacts the way student clubs are operated?
On Wednesday February 5 2025, Gen Action leaders, Raechelle and Lizzie attended the weekly ASWU meeting to voice these concerns and bring to light what is happening on our campus. Gen Action leaders plan to continue to advocate for your right to reproductive and s*xual health education on campus. Stay tuned for ways to get involved.
