Thank you to all that registered for this commemorative event to honor the many brave heroes who lost their lives 14 years ago on the morning of September 11, 2001.
Registration & Packet Pick up
You can pick up your race packet September 26th between the hours of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., at Spokane Fire Station 2, located at 1001 N. Foothills Drive, Spokane, WA 99207.
Registration ($35) will also be available during this time at Fire Station 2. Inside your packet, you will receive the badge(s) for the firefighter(s) that you will be running/walking in honor of. Please remember to bring them to the event with you.
Please note: This is a working firehouse in service 24 hours a day. Please use the side parking lot on the west and remain off the approach.
You can also register or pick up your packet on the morning of the run from 7:30 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. at the North Bank Shelter (start/finish location) in Riverfront Park, located at 507 N. Howard St., Spokane, WA.
If registering on the day of the event, please be prepared to pay with cash or check, or if necessary a debit or credit card.
T-Shirts
We will make every effort to get everyone a t-shirt, but cannot guarantee a shirt for registrations after 9/18/15.
Event Location
The Commemorative Run will start and finish at the North Bank Shelter in Riverfront Park. The best access is to park on the streets near the intersection of W. Mallon Avenue and N. Howard St.
The course will wind through Riverfront Park before heading east along the Centennial Trail near the carousel. Runners and walkers will cross over the Don Kardong footbridge, turn around at Hamilton St., and return to the shelter on the path on the north side of the Spokane River. Course markings and course marshals will help guide you.
Event Parking
Street parking is available throughout downtown and around the intersection of W. Mallon Avenue and N. Howard St. as well as some paid lots. Arrive early for the best spots.
Event Day Timeline (approx)
7:30 a.m.-8:45 a.m.: Packet pick-up and day-of run registration ($35). At packet pick-up you will receive the badge(s) for the firefighter(s) that you will be running/walking in honor of.
8:50 a.m.-9:10 a.m. Pre-event briefing. All participants must attend to receive instructions regarding the event.
9:10 a.m.-9:15 a.m. Opening ceremony & moment of silence.
9:15 a.m.: Run/Walk start- Spokane Police and Spokane Fire Department teams will initiate the start by passing under the banner.
POSTERS
We will have available for order two beautiful commemorative posters listing each New York firefighter by name, rank, and company as well as each Port Authority police officer and New York police officer lost in 9/11. Posters are $25 each and will be available for viewing and purchasing at packet pickup/registration on Saturday and the morning of the event. All net proceeds from the posters go directly into the fund for donation to our 2015 charities.
2015 Charities
The funds we raise this year will go to support our local Firefighters Benevolent Fund, the Washington National Guard Minuteman Emergency Assistance Fund (MEAF), and the Brian Orchard Scholarship fund.
Weather and What to Wear
At the time of this email, the forecast is calling for sun and a high of 67 degrees F. Please dress appropriately. Firefighters and other first responders who are choosing to do the event in gear are advised to carry an extra water bottle in their pockets, which will be available in the shelter / start area. There will be one (1) water station just after the turnaround near Gonzaga University.
Spectators and Supporters
Participants' family, friends, and supporters are encouraged to station themselves anywhere along the course, so long as to not interfere with participants running and walking the event.
