Each year, we bring together local entrepreneurs, community members, and supporters for a day dedicated to showcasing Black-owned businesses, building connections, and investing in the future of our community.

The Carl Maxey Center would like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate Duahh-Rahemmah Hunter, a dedicated community organizer and the visionary founder behind Spokane’s first Black Earth Day celebration.

This historic event brought our community together to honor the deep connection between Black culture, environmental stewardship, sustainability, and collective care. It created a space for learning, connection, and imagining a future where our communities are empowered to grow, heal, and thrive.

Duahh-Rahemmah’s leadership, passion, and commitment to community remind us that meaningful change begins with people who are willing to step forward and create something new.

🌱 SBRN Success Story: Turning a Dream Into Reality 🌱

Every successful business starts with a vision. Sometimes, it just takes the right support system to help that vision come to life.

Through the Small Business Resiliency Network (SBRN) at the Carl Maxey Center, we had the honor of walking alongside entrepreneur Horus Roundtree as he built his dream of opening a men’s fashion store right here in Spokane.

From navigating business licensing and hiring to setting up a point-of-sale system and preparing for opening day, Carl Maxey Center was able to provide hands-on support through our SBRN Technical Assistance every step of the way to help turn an idea into a thriving business.

Today, Treetop Men’s Fashion & Accessories is open and serving the community, and we couldn’t be more proud to celebrate this milestone. Treetop is located by Mustard Seed on the first floor of the Northtown Mall (4750 N Division St.)

Horus’s journey is a powerful reminder of what happens when entrepreneurs have access to resources, mentorship, and a community that believes in their success.
