ABOUT THE SPOKANE CHINESE ASSOCIATION:
Incorporated in 2004, the Spokane Chinese Association is a nonprofit organization that connects and
unites people of Chinese heritage in the Greater Spokane Area with the purpose of fostering stronger
community connections and pursuing a more enriched quality of life.
ABOUT LUNAR NEW YEAR:
Lunar New Year is celebrated across Asian countries, including China, Korea and Vietnam, as a way
of celebrating the beginning of the lunar calendar year. Festivities typically involve family gatherings,
feasts and elaborate performances like lion dance and dragon dances. In the Chinese zodiac, 2026 is
the Year of the Horse. The Horse is associated with qualities that symbolize energy, progress, and a
forward-looking spirit. The tradition of a joyous 15-day Lunar New Year celebration begins on the
first day of the Lunar New Year, which is Feb 17, 2026. In 2024, Washington State officially
recognized Lunar New Year as a state holiday when Governor Jay Inslee signed House Bill 2209 into law.
