🌟 Exhibitor Spotlight: Kelly 🌟
Meet Kelly, a seasoned and deeply dedicated showman heading into her 10th year at the Spokane County Fair! This year, Kelly will be showing both goats and cattle, but it’s cattle that hold her heart.
“I’ve found something new in goats,” Kelly says, “but cattle will always be my roots. The bond you build with them, the way they give back the effort you put in, is something I’ll never take for granted.”
That bond was front and center during one of her most memorable moments at the fair: in 2017, just days after breaking her foot, Kelly still entered the ring to show her heifer “Sprinkles” in both the heifer show and cow/calf pair class—with a cast on and a plastic bag over her boot to keep out the shavings. Now that’s dedication.
Outside the ring, Kelly is passionate about teaching others about agriculture and giving people a new perspective on the ag lifestyle. She plans to study animal nutrition and ag business, while continuing to help run her family’s ranch. She’s also interested in animal reproduction, especially in cattle and equine.
Her advice to new exhibitors:
“Be patient, take advice, and ask questions. Everyone here wants to help you grow. Sit and watch others clip or fit—there’s always more to learn.”
A fun fact? Every steer she’s shown, she’s been able to sit on, lying down or standing up! You might also catch her off to the side, camera in hand, as she’s found a passion for livestock photography as well.
To buyers, Kelly says this:
“Every bid you place, whether you win or not, helps a kid in ag chase their dreams. You’re investing in their future, their education, and their goals.”
Funds from her animal will go toward next year’s projects, college, feed, equipment, and growing her personal herd, including pasture rent and new heifers.
Lastly, Kelly gives a heartfelt shoutout to her mom, Krystal Cordill, a tireless beef superintendent at the fair:
“Her work behind the scenes often goes unnoticed, but I see it, and I’m so grateful. She balances it all and still makes sure my brother and I are ready for show day. Thank you, Mom!” 💛
