We are proud to have the largest Legislative Black Caucus on the West Coast. Last night, half of its members took the time to join our Spokane community, listening, engaging, and exploring meaningful ways for our community to participate in the civic process!

Thank you to Takeall Coalition, Waters Meet, Shades of Motherhood Network, and the Washington State Legislative Black Caucus for making this such a powerful and memorable gathering.

This past Sunday I had a chance to go to the open house for WE F.E.W., Filmmakers of Eastern Washington. I think it is really cool that they are looking to build the next pipeline of film industry personnel right here in our community. The thing I like most about their model is that they are looking to help the community for free. That means learning how to use a camera, do lighting, edit videos, or even work on a full blown film production. What they need is us in the community, those of us who believe in our creative economy, to donate and invest so that they can do their part in educating and helping create.

One of the best parts of my job as Eastern Washington Representative for the Governor's Office is getting out into the community and seeing people at events. Yesterday I ran into Blaine and his mother. Two years ago, when Blaine was just six years old, I was able to coordinate with Governor Inslee to award him the Washingtonian of the Day. Blaine shows that it doesn't matter how old you are. You can make an impact in our community.
