Sometimes the quietest moments make the loudest impact. Truthfully not only for them, but for us too🤍

For the babies in our care, calm is more than comfort—it’s an important part of their healing process.

At Maddie’s Place we have created intentional spaces to allow for a low-stimulation environment. Creating gentle rhythms, consistent care, and nurturing connections. This helps infants experiencing withdrawal to feel safe enough to rest, regulate, and grow.

These moments may look simple, but they carry extraordinary meaning✨

Every cuddle. Every walk. Every calming moment matters.

What we think we know about substance exposure is often only part of the story⬇️

When many people hear the term “substance-exposed infant,” they may immediately think of illegal or “hard” drugs. While those exposures do occur and may affect some of the infants we care for, they represent only a portion of the experiences that can lead to substance exposure during pregnancy.

Substance exposure can involve a wide range of substances, including prescribed medications, alcohol, ni****ne, cannabis, opioids, and other substances. Every infant’s exposure history is unique, and the way an infant responds can vary significantly. Some infants may experience withdrawal symptoms or heightened responses to their environment, while others may show reduced responses to their environment, or require different types of support.

That’s why individualized care is important🤍

At Maddie’s Place, we take it into consideration. We use information about an infant’s exposures, along their symptoms and needs, to develop personalized care plans. We try different comfort measures, therapeutic interventions, and support strategies to help each infant feel safe, regulated, and cared for.

No two infants are exactly alike. No two families are exactly alike. Understanding the full picture helps us provide compassionate, evidence-informed care while reducing the stigma that too often surrounds substance exposure.

Every baby deserves care, and every family deserves the opportunity to be met with non-judgmental support, and hope.

We don’t take these sweet moments of healing for granted🤍

Every day at Maddie’s Place is another day we are seeing change happen, and communities of hope being built.

Maddie’s Place is a 501(c)3 non-profit, free-standing recovery nursery for babies experiencing withdrawal due to prenatal substance exposure. We provide high quality, holistic, multi-disciplinary medical and non-medical care for infants with prenatal substance exposure, including neonatal substance exposure (NAS) and wraparound support for their parents/caregivers.

Our comprehensive model of care brings babies safely through their withdrawal, facilitates early bonding whenever possible, offers hope and support to parents struggling with substance abuse, strengthens families, improves early intervention, and helps mitigate the long-term effects suffered by children with in-utero substance exposure.
