🚒🧤This winter $15,000 was raised to provide 700+ brand-new winter coats to local kids. It was a successful 9th year for Spokane Valley Firefighters Operation Warm!🧣🚒
Winter coats were distributed to kiddos at 18 preschools, kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools, and student engagement centers in the West Valley School District Spokane, Central Valley School District - Spokane Valley, WA, and East Valley School District. Starting in November, students received a coat either by parents signing up their child through an online form or were handed out to kids by school counselors. We also provided coats to several local organizations who help some of Spokane and Spokane Valley’s most vulnerable children, women, and young adults.
Nonprofit organizations we distributed coats to included the Catholic Charities Eastern Washington Pope Francis Haven for homeless families with children, the Union Gospel Mission Crisis Shelter for Women & Children, the Volunteers of America Eastern Washington Alexandria’s House for homeless pregnant or parenting young women, Volunteers of America Young Adult shelter, and the Family Promise of Spokane emergency family shelter.
Our Operation Warm kids coat program is now in its 9th year after being started by the Spokane Valley Firefighters Local 876 labor union in 2017. This is truly a community program and we couldn’t have done it without all the businesses, organizations, and individuals who donated. With nearly 22,000 total students in the 3 Valley school districts and high rates of financially struggling families, we’ll continue working to expand this program with each additional year.
Thank you to this year's business and organization donors: Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance, Spokane Valley Firefighters Benevolent Association, Kaiser Permanente Washington, Dishman Dodge Ram Chrysler Jeep, Spokane Firefighters Credit Union, FRSTeam of the Inland Northwest, ICCU, Restoration 1 of Spokane, and Signs Tec
