Post meetings are held every Tuesday during the school year at 7:00 PM at PFD Station 1. An Explorer Post dedicated to learning & participating in Firefighting and EMS activities in the Lake Travis / Briarcliff area near Austin, TX. This is our Public page, we also have a private page where members can exchange information. Exploring is a doorway to one of the most exciting adventures ima
ginable. As kids step into the world of Fire/EMS Exploring, they will find themselves donning bunker gear, searching for victims, learning first aid and CPR, as well as actively participating in emergency responses. As they mature in Exploring, they will learn practical lifesaving skills, how to interact with a variety of people and situations, how to lead and be led, and how to be a responsible citizen. Exploring is an adventure they will remember the rest of their life. There are plenty of Exploring skills they can master, but they also can teach others what they have learned. Everyone helping everyone else, learning to lead and learning to work with others – that is part of Exploring too. Post 8 was chartered by Pedernales Fire Department (PFD) to reach out to area youth and expose them to the field of Fire and Emergency Medical Services as part of the Learning for Life program sponsored by the Boys Scouts of America (BSA). Exploring is Learning for Life’s career education program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) or 15 to 20 years old. Adults are selected by the participating organization for involvement in the program. Color, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, economic status, or citizenship is not criteria for participation. Exploring’s purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are ready to investigate the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships and communities. Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Fire departments initiate an Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop. The Fire and Emergency Services Exploring Program is part of the Capitol Area Council’s Exploring Program. Exploring gives high school students the opportunity to gain insight into a fire and emergency services career and develop a road map for their futures. Students interact with Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics and gain experience in a work environment. Explorer Post Advisors offer students advice on the skills, responsibilities and educational requirements for fire and emergency services careers.
