Think volunteer firefighters don't impact your life? Think again.

Volunteer firefighters and their departments are critical to providing fire protection in Tennessee. Take a look at the numbers:

-54% of the state’s population receive fire protection from departments utilizing volunteers.

-95% of the state’s geography receives fire protection from departments utilizing volunteers (either a combination department of volunteer and career firefighters or completely volunteer).

-Over 70% of the state’s fire departments are staffed entirely by volunteers.

- Tennessee has 12,460 volunteer firefighters, which is 59.1% of the population of Tennessee’s fire service.

During Volunteer Firefighters Week, thank a firefighter.

📞 Honoring the First 911 Call – A Lifeline That Changed Everything 🇺🇸 58 years of 911.

On February 16, 1968, the very first 911 call was placed in Haleyville, Alabama. One simple call sparked a nationwide system that would go on to save millions of lives.

Since that historic moment, 911 has become more than just three numbers. It’s a lifeline. A voice in the dark. A calm presence during someone’s worst day.

At Van Buren County E911, our dispatchers carry that legacy forward every single shift. Whether it’s a medical emergency, a house fire, a wreck on the highway, or someone simply needing help — we answer.

Behind every call is a trained professional who:
• Stays calm when seconds matter
• Guides lifesaving CPR
• Sends help when it’s needed most
• Listens when someone feels alone

Today, we honor the origin of 911 and the dedication of every telecommunicator who continues that mission. We are proud to serve this community and to be the steady voice when you need us most.

If you ever have an emergency — remember, we are here. Always.

☎️ Dial 911. We will answer.
