WHAT IS THE AMERICAN LEGION? Many veterans have no idea. They believe it is a bunch of old guys sitting around drinking, smoking, and sharing war stories. The only part of that statement that is at all factual is the fact that the American Legion is aging in membership. It is imperative that younger veteran’s understand the complete mission of impacting the community and become involved. The Ameri

can Legion has existed for almost a full century. “It is the nation’s largest wartime veteran’s service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.” [American Legion national website]

Post 207 post is diverse team of Van Buren County area veterans who have served our country in all branches of the United States Military. We have a desire to continue to serve by being an active participant in the Van Buren County community. Every man and woman who attends our monthly meetings has a unique story and memories of years served in uniform. The following are just a few ways in which our post assists those who have defended our nation:

Resource education for veterans and families. Camaraderie Visitation with individuals at nursing and medical facilities. Military honor guard at veteran funeral service. Military honor guard at community events and parades. Decoration of gravesites for national days of remembrance. Assist with emergency financial support to veterans in need
Various members are volunteer support for a number of local non-profit organizations
