We would like to send a huge thank you to everyone that helped with storm damage clean-up this afternoon. It was a great example of many hands makes light work, and why we love where we live! Whether you brought equipment into town to haul branches away, chainsaws to help cut them up or were one of the strong backs piling, we appreciate you! If anyone has pictures of the damage, or clean-up crew, please feel free to post them here.

Spencer #24 reporting for duty!! We would like to thank the Spencer Community Foundation for their generous donation to purchase a new skid unit from Danko Emergency Equipment Co. to put on our latest addition to our stable. This truck will be one of our first response rigs for all grass fires and will assist with traffic control at accident scenes. Thanks also to Rocket sign company for the decals and lettering, and Bryan, Bo Hipke, Tricia Hipke for the welding, Nathan Haun for the lights and wiring, and everyone in the community for supporting us!

No, just no. We are NOT opening burning permits in our District even though the Governor has lifted the statewide burn ban.

But, but...
It's cold... No, we need more moisture.
It's wet outside... No, we need more moisture.
The humidity is up... No, we need more moisture.
There's no wind... No, we need more moisture.

Locally, there has not been enough precipitation to justify making burn permits available. We will post when burn permits are available again. We appreciate your patience.

We understand that there has been some confusion regarding the statewide burn ban that is currently in effect in Nebraska. We’re here to try and clear things up.

While the recent rain has been a blessing, it does not automatically lift the statewide burn ban that has been issued by Governor Jim Pillen. The current ban is in effect until 11:59pm on April 10th, 2026.

What this means:

🔥No campfires
🔥No backyard fire pits
🔥No front yard fire pits
🔥No burning of tree piles
🔥No burning of trash pits
🔥No burning for the purpose of clearing land
🔥No burning of food on the stove
🔥No burning of the tires (on or off the car)
🔥Absolutely no burning of CDs

With nearly 1,000,000 Nebraska acres burned due to wildfire so far this year, we ask that you please refrain from any outdoor activity that could result in a fire. Violation of the statewide burn ban is a Class IV misdemeanor.

Please report any fires you see, as well as any suspicious activity right away. It’s better to be safe than sorry. We will respond to any and all reports of illegal burning within the Spencer Fire District.

Thank you,
Spencer NE Volunteer Fire Department

🚨 Action Needed: please read this!! 🚨

We need Nebraska's help.

Please take the time to read up on LB 400.

It would provide critical workers’ compensation protections for firefighters diagnosed with cancer, recognizing the real risks they face in the line of duty. This bill was introduced to cover both volunteer and paid firefighters.

However, an amendment has been introduced that would remove volunteer firefighters from this coverage.

That is simply not acceptable. We deserve to be covered as well.

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of line-of-duty deaths among firefighters. Volunteer firefighters face the same dangers and exposures as paid departments, and they deserve the same protections.

Please take a moment to contact your State Senator today.

Ask them to:
Support LB 400 and OPPOSE any amendment that removes volunteer firefighter coverage.

Your voice matters. Help ensure Nebraska’s volunteer firefighters are not left behind!
