Shayla Bee Fund

Shayla Bee Fund “Our mission is to help, responsible, working class families with a child in medical crisis.” Her devotion to Shayla was a true inspiration.

Shayla Kaye Rohrbaugh was born on December 4th 1998, with a condition called Schizencephaly. Her 6 year battle was an inspiration to her family and all who loved and cared for her. Her 18 year old mother went from a troubled single mom, to a 24 hour a day, seven day a week caregiver in a heartbeat. It is baffling how a handicapped child can have such a profound impact on so many lives, but she did

. Shayla died on January 8 2005 leaving behind a little brother Aydan and a little sister Isabel. The Shayla Bee Fund is a living memorial to Shayla. Shayla's courage is a legacy that has again inspired her family and friends to help others through the Shayla Bee Fund. The Shayla Bee Fund does not sponsor or endorse any event and remains independent of any event. But is eternally grateful for all Fund supporters.

Good morning everyone,

First, I want to apologize for not getting updates out more quickly. The last few weeks have been a lot to navigate, and we truly appreciate your patience.

Mom is now home and comfortable. She is less alert and not always recognizing everyone, so we are keeping visitors to a minimum for now. She is still eating well, and we are focusing on keeping her peaceful and surrounded by love.

My sister, Leslie, has stepped into the role of her full-time caregiver with so much strength and pride, and I am incredibly grateful for her.

I am still in Sioux Falls with Pop while trying to get back to see Mom as often as possible. It’s a difficult pull between the two, and we’re just doing our best to be where we’re needed most each day.

Pop continues to improve, and we are so thankful for that progress. He underwent his fourth major surgery last week after his T12 vertebrae was shattered in the accident. His back surgery was completed last Wednesday, and while he still has a long road ahead, we are encouraged by how he is doing. His humorous side is definitely still there!

Lastly, and most importantly—thank you. Truly. The prayers, messages, support, and kindness from all of you have carried us through some incredibly heavy days. We feel it, and we are so grateful.

We will continue to share updates as we are able. Thank you for standing with our family.

❤️ Lindsay.

Toby came up to Randy & I at a Shine Christmas Party in 2015. He expressed how much he liked the work we do at Shayla Bee and wondered what he could do to help. The Black Tie - Black Leather Affair idea had been percolating for some time. We met with Toby a few days later and talked about some of our ideas. He had some thoughts, ideas and suggestions, and asked if we would like to have it at Okoboji Classic Cars.

Never in our wildest dreams did we think we could have such an event in such a world class facility. On our first walk through Toby explained how we could set up on the Park side etc.

Of course we were not sure if or how we would hold a successful event but we knew it was important to do this gift justice. It was also important to make Toby proud! We set a date and got busy. Toby gave us some great direction and ideas. We met with Sylvia, April and at the time Dennis Linn for planning and logistics. Absolutely everyone at OCC made us feel like family, and that we were no trouble at all. (We are trouble!) the amount of work that goes into this event for the folks at OCC was and is enormous. Toby became more than a supporter, he became a mentor and even a friend. Toby was a humble man and preferred to not get a great deal of attention, but was always happy to help. Toby has been a gift to Shayla Bee, so many others and in fact all of NW Iowa! You will bee missed, it has been a great honor to serve with you!

Let me try to organize my thoughts—even though they’re all running in opposite directions! 💛

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it over and over again: THIS COMMUNITY IS AMAZING. We are so blessed to be a part of it.

This weekend we were invited by Rocky & Angie Thompson (SplitRock Photography) to the Shayla Bee Black Tie Black Leather Affair: Denim and Diamond fundraiser. I’ll be honest—I didn’t know much about the organization going in, but with good company we were up for anything. What I didn’t expect was to leave so completely blown away. 💔💛

Even today, while mowing the back patch, I found myself emotional just thinking about it. If you’ve ever wondered what your local spending truly does for you—let me tell you.

Local business owners. Local bank presidents. Local doctors. Local farmers. Just plain old local, incredible people. Every single one giving, donating, supporting… all so families facing the hardest days of their lives—illnesses or birth emergencies—don’t have to walk alone.

👉 The LOCAL.
👉 The COMMUNITY.
That’s who shows up for YOU.

Those same people you might spend a couple extra dollars with locally are the ones turning around and giving thousands back—to your kids’ sports teams, your schools, and life-changing organizations like Shayla Bee.

This weekend was proof: this community has your back when you need it most. 💛

Keep an eye out this patch season for a few Shayla Bee items we added 😉 💕
