We are grateful to be able to provide FREE saplings in partnership with the Speedway Centennial Celebration! Our program is about more than giving away trees, it is about honoring our community and stewarding our lands for generations to come.

To ensure these 100 trees mature for all to enjoy. We are requiring program participants to attend ONE tree care session (dates below). Participants will be able to select their tree variety at these sessions, and will be given a ticket for tree pickup day. All trees must be picked up October 17th, details for pickup will be provided at the tree care sessions.

✨Centennial Tree Spotlight ✨

Rounding out our tree offerings is the "Vibrant Optimist" Eastern Redbud! As an early spring bloomer, the Redbud's vibrant pink coloring is often a tell-tale sign winter is nearing an end and a new season is arriving! Swipe to learn some fast facts.

FOOD: Its abundant spring flowers provide an early-season food source for bees and other pollinators. The seeds are also eaten by birds and small mammals.

ADAPTABILITY: the Redbud adapts well to a range of soils and light conditions, performing especially well in sun to partial shade with good drainage. Once established, it can tolerate periods of dry conditions.

ID TIPS: In early spring, look for clusters of pink to rosy-purple flowers appearing along the branches before the leaves emerge. Later, heart-shaped leaves and flat, bean-like seed pods make this tree easy to recognize.

✨Centennial Tree Spotlight ✨

Our "Thoughtful Introvert", the Shadblow Serviceberry! Quietly beautiful, the tree changes through the seasons providing something for all - spring flowers and autumn berries. Swipe to learn some fast facts.

Habitat: Often found in moist woodlands, stream edges, wetlands, and woodland margins, serviceberry provides valuable cover and habitat for birds, and less commonly thought of insects, including a variety of beetles, weevils, moths, and the striped hairstreak and red-spotted purple butterflies

Food: Its early spring flowers provide nectar for pollinators, while its small, berry-like fruits are a favorite of birds and other wildlife. The fruits are also edible for people when ripe.

Adaptability: Shadblow serviceberry does well in moist, well-drained soils and can tolerate partial shade, making it a great choice for woodland edges, naturalized areas, and residential landscapes.

ID Tips: Look for clusters of white flowers in early spring, finely serrated oval leaves, and small berries that ripen from red to dark purple. In fall, the foliage can turn brilliant shades of orange and red.

✨Centennial Tree Spotlight ✨

Our "Cheery Dreamer", the Tulip Tree! As the tallest, native hardwood tree in the eastern U.S., the tulip tree is a stand-out! Swipe to learn some fast facts.

Habitat: Tulip trees provide canopy, cover, and nesting habitat for wildlife.

Food: Their tulip-shaped flowers provide nectar for bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators, while their seeds feed birds and small mammals. Their leaves also support caterpillars of several moth and butterfly species.

Adaptability: Fast-growing and suited to a wide range of eastern forests, tulip trees can thrive when given adequate sunlight, moisture, and well-drained soil—though they can struggle with drought and compacted soils.

ID Tips: Look for the distinctive four-lobed leaves, greenish-yellow flowers with orange markings, cone-like seed clusters, and tall, straight trunk. In winter, the duck-bill-shaped buds are another great clue.

FOOD: Its bright red fruits are an important fall food source for cardinals and other birds and mammals such as, squirrels, and chipmunks.

HABITAT: Dogwood supports pollinators in spring and provides cover and nesting opportunities for birds. Its dense branching structure creates useful habitat throughout the year.

ADAPTABILITY: Flowering Dogwood does best in moist, well-drained soil and partial shade, especially with protection from intense afternoon sun. Once established, it can be a wonderful addition to home landscapes and natural areas.
