Hobo's Healing Heart A 501(c)3 charity aiding pet owners in the Black Hills of SD and Crook & Weston Counties in WY with emergency vet care grants & pet cremation grants.

Home of the ORIGINAL 0.5K Challenge Fundraiser

Hobo's Healing Heart assists families in the Black Hills who are experiencing financial hardship with emergency veterinary care and pet cremation expenses. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization. Our board members work full-time jobs and process applications during lunch breaks and available free time. Applications are typically reviewed Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., when veterinary clinics are available to answer questions and provide needed information. We strive to process emergency assistance applications within 72 hours, excluding weekends and holidays. Processing times depend entirely on how quickly both the applicant and veterinary clinic provide the information required to make a funding decision. Do not delay urgent or emergency veterinary care while waiting to learn whether your application has been approved. Delaying care may cause your pet's condition to worsen, increase treatment costs, or result in the loss of your pet. Applicants who delay treatment while waiting for a funding decision may become ineligible for assistance. Please remember that we cannot guarantee approval of any application or guarantee a specific funding amount. Your pet's care and well-being remain your responsibility regardless of whether we are able to provide assistance. We do our best to respond to Facebook messages and emails as quickly as possible; however, due to our limited volunteer capacity, priority is given to our employment obligations and assistance applications. If you need assistance, the fastest—and only—way to begin the process is to review our eligibility requirements and submit the appropriate application. Messaging us to ask whether you qualify may delay the process and could result in missing the 14-day application deadline from the date of the initial veterinary visit, resulting in an automatic denial. If you believe you may qualify, please submit an application as soon as possible. Applications are never accepted through Facebook Messenger, text message, phone call, or email. Assistance requests must be submitted through the official application process.

So tease that big hair, grow your best mullet, pull on those leg warmers, crank up the boombox, and lets get ready to PARTY LIKE IT'S 1985! 🕺🎉

🏃April 25,2027 - We bring you the TOUGHEST RACE IN THE HILLS! - Grab your '80's workout gear, channel your inner Richard Simmons, and get ready to sweat to the '80's!

🎶July 11, 2027 - We're gonna have a total dance party on the course. Get ready to walk, rock, and roll as we spin you around round and try not to get lost! Big hair is encouraged. Bring your mad air guitar skills.

🧟October 10, 2027 - We're taking this party BACK TO THE FUTURE ... or at least back to the '80's! Break out your most bodacious '80's costumes and help us close out the Trifecta in totally tubular style! (Costume categories to be announced).

🐾🎃 THAT'S A WRAP ON OUR 2026 0.5K TRIFECTA CHALLENGE! 🎃🐾

Our Dog Walking Dead 0.5K Challenge was the perfect way to close out another incredible season! From creative costumes and plenty of laughs to the amazing generosity of our community, we couldn't have asked for a better season finale!

And what a season it has been! ❤️

🐾 245 participants and supporters joined us across our three Trifecta events!

💰 $11,100 raised throughout the 2026 Trifecta season!

❤️ Nearly 250 families helped and just under $80,000 paid directly to local veterinary clinics and pet crematories as of Oct 11, 2026 since Hobo's Healing Heart was founded in 2014!

Those numbers represent more than fundraising successes. They represent beloved pets receiving emergency veterinary care, families getting help when they need it most, and dollars going right back into our local communities.

We don't apply for grants. Everything we do is made possible through our fundraisers, individual donors, local businesses, sponsors, and volunteers. We simply couldn't do this without you!
