Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation

Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation A non-profit foundation in memory of our amazing and beautiful Kenadi Jean who passed away unexpectedly at 5 1/2 years old. Today is one day closer ...

Our daughter, Kenadi Jean, was born on June 27th, 2008. After a difficult delivery she suffered from a anoxic brain injury that resulted in many physical delays. Although unable to sit, stand, or walk, she was cognitively the smartest little cookie. She loved her family, reading books, brushing her teeth, eating ice cream, playing basketball, swimming, and going to school. She passed away unexpect

edly on March 24th, 2014. She changed our lives beyond measure and taught us more things about ourselves and life in general than we ever thought possible. For a child that was unable to speak a word, she moved mountains inside of us and many many others. We started the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation in memory of this amazing soul that we love and miss so very much. That we may carry on her awesome spirit and help others in whatever way we can ... making a difference on this earth one little Kenadi Jean footstep at a time. Every day is one day closer to her. May 1 marks the official beginning of the summer season for the City of Spearfish Parks, Rec and Forestry Department crew.
Restrooms at most city parks are now open, and ongoing maintenance at the parks include lawn mowing, w**d eating, and bathroom upkeep.
We are still so very proud or our efforts to build the Kenadi Jean Weis inclusive playground with poured-in-place rubber surfacing!

Design-wise, Capp hopes the structure will be striking — and echo the ‘Spearfish’ sign on Jackson Boulevard at Exit 12.
The building is designed to offer trail users amenities — including an ADA accessible restroom, bench seating, bike parking, trail information, water bottle filling, and shelter from fast-changing South Dakota weather.

Tatum Smith Vulcan is the recipient of our Kenadi Jean Weis Special Education Scholarship this year.
She chose BHSU for the breathtaking view and best education program offered. Tatum’s decision to pursue a Special Education degree was influenced by her brothers who are on the autism spectrum and is grateful for the support of her Special Education Professors Dr. Mary Anne Fleury and Dr. Wendy Stewman. Tatum desires to reshape the stigma and stereotype associated with Special Education and strives for a more positive environment without judgement for her future students.
After the Spring semester, she is traveling to South Africa to expand her knowledge about education in other countries and wants to share her mission by developing a service-learning project in schools back home for students with disabilities.
She is thankful for the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation scholarship and is honored to carry on Kenadi’s legacy!
