🌟 Meet Jaymia Ecker, Member at Large 🌟

Jaymia brings a creative, policy-oriented perspective to the Spearfish Trails Coalition. Her circuitous path has woven together geography, international development, and a passion for people-oriented spaces into a career in city planning.

When she’s not helping shape communities, Jaymia can be found dabbling in a variety of outdoor sports. And despite her chronically low tire pressure, she’ll never turn down a spontaneous bike ride.

Spend more than a few minutes chatting with her, and she’ll probably encourage you to run for public office, volunteer on a board or commission, or organize a community event. She believes great places are built by people who get involved.

Jaymia’s vision for Spearfish? More bikes, more grunge, and more outdoor restaurant seating.

We’re grateful to have her creativity, energy, and community-minded spirit helping guide the future of trails and outdoor recreation in Spearfish.

Urban Adventure Ride
with TWD + SRAM

Remember being a kid and ripping through town with your friends, hucking curbs, cutting through creek bottoms, and daring each other to try something just a little sketchy but totally awesome? Maybe that wasn’t your story, but you wish it was.

Now is your chance to relive it or experience it for the first time.

Join us for an urban ride built around fun, creativity, and the pure joy of being on a bike. Mountain bikes may be best for this ride, but all bikes and all skill levels are welcome! We will roll through town, practice skills, try new moves, and push each other just enough to get a little better and have a lot of fun doing it.

Tuesday, May 26
5:30 PM
Two Wheeler Dealer

Come ride, play, and remember why bikes are the best. Light refreshments provided by SRAM.

What a day at the Spearfish Trails Coalition Trail Tour 🌲🚲

So awesome seeing such a great turnout and SO many kids out exploring the trails, riding, learning, and just having fun outside. Huge thanks to everyone who came out and made it such a fun community day; this is what it’s all about 🙌

New Trail Construction!

We’re excited to announce that the Rock Solid Trail Contracting crew will soon begin construction on portions of Zone 2 and Zone 3 near Winterville and the City Campground!

Zone 3 will feature a new gravity skills area above the ice skating rink, with trails designed to build downhill riding skills and create progression opportunities for riders of all levels.

Zone 2 will include an additional 1+ mile green flow trail near the existing beginner trail, expanding fun and accessible riding opportunities for all ages and ability levels.

We’re thrilled to welcome the Rock Solid crew to Spearfish and want to make sure they have a great experience while working in our community. If you see them around town or on the trails, be sure to give them a warm Spearfish welcome!

Weather and unforeseen challenges aside, the project is currently scheduled for completion by the end of July.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support trail development in Spearfish — we can’t wait to ride these new additions together!

Meet the people helping shape and sustain the trails we all love! Next up in our “Meet the Board” series is Heath Brown, a longtime outdoor advocate and dedicated steward of the Spearfish trail community.

Heath Brown is no stranger to the trails in Spearfish. Whether he’s doing trail maintenance on Lookout Mountain, cross-country skiing at Big Hill, or running on Tinton, Heath loves spending time outdoors.

Heath currently serves as Treasurer for STC. He holds a degree in Outdoor Education from Black Hills State University and has a background in wildland firefighting. He believes one of the greatest impacts STC can have is through trail education.
