Memorial Day 2026: Our Chapter had multiple missions today. The most important one included saving a life after receiving a su***de call.
At the same time, several Riders attended the six Memorial Day ceremonies and provided an Honor Flag Line at Rose Hill cemetery.
The ceremony was possible by the participation of the Spearfish Veterans Honor Guard, the Scouts Troop 17, the Black Hills Chapter of the American Legion Riders, the Scouts Crew 17, Lyle Berry Band, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 164 Commander Mike Porter as the ceremony chaplain, and SD American Legion National Executive Committeeman Fred Nelson as Master of Ceremony. The ceremony speaker was First Sergeant Bradley Limbo, a 26-year and current active member of the SD Army National Guard 842nd Engineering Company.
He reminded the large attendance that Memorial Day is not just a long weekend.
It is not just the beginning of summer.
It is a day set aside to remember the men and women who gave their lives for this country.
The freedoms we live in every single day came at a cost.
Someone’s son.
Someone’s daughter.
Someone’s husband.
Someone’s wife.
Someone’s mom.
Someone’s dad.
Someone’s friend.
They chose to serve, and some gave everything. A grateful nation for those who served; a grateful nation for those who sacrificed and for the families who carry the weight of that sacrifice every day.
May we never take for granted the freedoms and honor the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
