Congratulations to Spearfish High School SkillsUSA members Burton Lehtola, Chase Schenk, and Andrew Willhite who recently represented Spearfish High School and South Dakota at the 2026 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) in Atlanta. NLSC is the nation’s premier showcase of career and technical education students.

Throughout the week, students participated in leadership development activities, explored career opportunities, and networked with fellow students, educators, and industry professionals from across the country.

Congratulations to Northern Hills CASA (court-appointed special advocate) on 40 years of service! Thank you for all you do!

“Sadly, child maltreatment is on the rise,” said Amy Cermak, the executive director of Northern Hills CASA. Despite that, there are 71 local volunteers waiting in the wings to provide consistent support and advocacy for children as they navigate trying and uncertain times.

“We served 80 children in 2025,” Cermak said. “34 volunteers logged over 5,500 hours and traveled nearly 33,000 miles advocating for children and families.”
