Western Hills Humane Society is a no-kill, non-suffering pet shelter that protects, saves, and enhances the lives of abused, neglected, forgotten, and lost animals. Located in Spearfish, South Dakota. In addition to donations and fundraising efforts, the shelter is generously funded by the City of Spearfish, Lawrence County, and various grants and donations.

We are almost put of our disinfectant wipes! Maybe you have some you didn't like, maybe you're headed to Wal-Mart and could pick up an extra container? Any brand will do! We do our best to keep surfaces clean and wipes are preferred to spray so cats/kittens and their food aren't accidentally sprayed with yucky (but necessary for disinfecting) chemicals. We are closed today but open tomorrow-Saturday 10:30-4:30. If you're in the area today, leave them by the front door and we'll grab them at night feed or right away in the morning.
Thank you in advance and thank you to this community that steps up in the smallest but most helpful ways. The animals are so lucky to have you!

PS- we have lots of little kitties that showed up as strays/city impounds so we're always looking for more canned/wet kitten food! ♥️

Talk to you brave souls soon... but for real, she's semi-spicy but does NOT use claws or teeth, she just needs extra TLC to get more comfortable. She gives a good bappity-bap. She's under a year old and so there's lots of hope for her.

We will require a home check, vet references, and weekly updates - just a heads up!

If this is your cat, please contact Spearfish Animal Control through dispatch 605.642.1300 to reclaim this handsome boy! *unsure if he was checked for a chip by officers so we scan him tomorrow (Tues) just in case! Update- no microchip.

Beauty is a 3 year old Lab/Pyrenees mix that's excited to announce she'll be ready for adoption the 15th! We're working on vaccinations and her spay is scheduled the 14th. Beauty will be added to our website SOON where you can get to know her a little better. You're welcome to stop in to see her before then but official meet-and-greets start the 15th following her rabies shot.
She can't wait to meet her new family...

Email is easiest for our adoption-approval staff members to ask questions and stay organized with a paper trail. Plus, our phone is constantly ringing and we don't always have the option to makes outgoing calls when we can't catch a break with incoming calls.

Now that we have online apps, we get 3x as many and many people just put in an app to put one in... so we have more to sort through and doesn't always mean an adoption. It's been an experience.😅 THANK YOU for your patience and for wanting to adopt! 🐾♥️
