BHSU Thompson Diversion Program

The Thompson Diversion Program is a student organization at BHSU that provides students with the opportunity to turn a poor decision into a life lesson.

This organization was started by a committee of four student senators led by Brittany Thompson. The Thompson Diversion Program started as a Student Senate initiative in October 2015. A group of four senators led by Brittany Thompson met with BHSU Administration to create a plan of implementation. Next, they met with the Marlene Todd, founder of Lawrence County Teen Court to establish a structure f

or the program. Marlene then assisted the group in meeting with the Lawrence County State's Attorney and the Lawrence County Clerk of Courts. After those meetings, the program launched in the fall of 2016. After Brittany's passing in January of 2017, the program was renamed in her honor. In the first year, the program donated over 1,100 hours of community service to the BHSU and Spearfish communities.

Huge thank you to Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore LLP Ali J. Schaefbauer and Christopher A. Christianson for a wonderful training night with the Thompson Diversion program and a generous donation that will be used as scholarship money for both participants and volunteers of the program.

Join us this Thursday at 5pm in the Trump Conference room for a Mock Trial Training Night with Attorneys from Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson and Asmore LLP and an appearance by the Spearfish Police Department. We are so excited to have Ali Schaefbauer and Chris Christianson lend their expertise to our program! Bring your mask and grab a friend, Diversion participation counts as community service hours, and we know you’ll love it! Your attendance also lends you a greater shot at scholarship money donated by the firm as well! See you then!

Are you a prospective Law student? Interested in law? Regardless, we have a great event for you. Join us this Thursday at 5pm in the Trump Conference room with our guest Eric Schlimgen of Schlimgen Law Firm, LLC. This will be an open forum Q&A session to ask a lawyer anything from LSATS, to applying to law schools, law school itself and whatever else you may be curious about! Please bring your masks and stay socially distant. We hope to see you there!

If you or someone you know is interested in either the Assistant Director or Student Director position please apply. Submission Deadline is March 11th at 5:00pm.
