We are so saddened by this news, and so very grateful to Wendell Berry for his wisdom, friendship, and support over the years. Wendell attended our inaugural "Loving the Land Through Working Forests" conferences back in 2012 and 2013, and his writing propelled FSF's mission onto a broader stage. May he rest in peace, and may we all strive to carry his important legacy forward through our work.

Friends,

The Berry Center and Berry family are heartbroken to announce the death of Wendell Erdman Berry, writer and farmer of Port Royal, Henry County, Kentucky. He passed suddenly and peacefully at home yesterday afternoon, August 31st. His work continues, here and in every place where people aim to live according to nature’s measure, on and with and of their beloved home place.

Please help us respect the privacy and the wishes of the family by directing all correspondence, remembrances, inquiries, and good wishes to The Berry Center at [email protected] or by post ℅ The Berry Center, PO Box 582, New Castle KY 40050. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Berry Center or a like-missioned organization doing the good work in your home place in Wendell’s memory.

We are at the Corry Artists' Guild Art Exhibition of original artwork inspired by area nonprofits, and clearly thrilled to see the painting “Fueling” by Steve Campbell, inspired by one of our horse-logging crews.

Join us here tomorrow at the Create for Change art auction at 1pm to bid on this and other beautiful pieces! A portion of the proceeds will support the Foundation for Sustainable Forests.

Our 2025 Annual Report highlights your generous support and the year's accomplishments. Last year, with the help of grantors, FSF's staff and Board invested heavily in organizational resilience through a financial systems audit and an intensive strategic planning process. Today, we are in a strong position for conservation impact in 2026! A link to the report is in the comments below.

Yesterday's Lynn Firth Wildflower Walk was a true celebration of Spring after the long winter! We pivoted to Sparta Sportsmen's Community Forest on Old Rte 77 Rd. where the flowers were further along, and were rewarded with the sight of flowering hobblebush - a rare find in our region. Thank you to all who attended!
