🚨 IMMEDIATE EVACUATION NOTICE 🚨

The Charles Lea Center Main Campus located at 195 Burdette Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29307 is currently under an evacuation order due to a NATURAL GAS LEAK within a half-mile radius of our building.

All individuals in our Day Programs are being evacuated IMMEDIATELY to:
📍 Ingles Parking Lot
2375 Chesnee Highway
Spartanburg, SC 29303
All individuals will remain with their assigned staff and will be waiting safely inside vehicles.
Individuals who reside in a CLC residence will be taken to their home.

⚠️ DO NOT COME TO THE MAIN CENTER TO PICK UP. ⚠️
Families and caregivers should report ONLY to the Ingles parking lot location listed above for pickup and further instructions.

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Maria Arroyo 🌟
Bilingual Case Manager | Advocate | Chocolate Lover

Meet Maria Arroyo, a dedicated Bilingual Case Manager with HASCI, who has been part of the Charles Lea Center family for 7½ years. 💚 Maria values the strong sense of teamwork within the Case Management department and is grateful to work alongside a supportive team and supervisor who truly look out for one another. She believes there’s always something new to learn and admire from her Case Management co-workers every single day.

Maria was inspired to join CLC by a deep desire to serve others. She’s passionate about being a voice for individuals who cannot advocate for themselves and a trusted resource for families, helping them succeed and thrive through compassion and support.

In her role, Maria:
• Advocates for individuals and families to ensure they receive needed services
• Collaborates with agency providers to support individuals in reaching their goals
• Completes assessments and evaluations
• Monitors services to ensure consistent, quality support

Maria holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, which supports her thoughtful, person-centered approach to case management.

Outside of work, Maria is a proud mom of two, a self-proclaimed chocolate lover, and enjoys listening to music and spending time gardening. 🌱🎶🍫

Winter weather is headed our way. If you use medical equipment that needs electricity, or need space for a hospital bed during an evacuation, the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) offers medical needs shelters during severe weather. These shelters have:

Generator power
Extra space for medical equipment or a hospital bed
A medical cot and linens (or space for your own bed)
Limited meals

Shelter staff can call 911 and give CPR in an emergency, but they do not provide medical care and may not be licensed health care workers. Because of this, a caregiver usually needs to stay with you at the shelter.

If you go to a medical needs shelter, bring:
All medications
Medical supplies
Special foods or liquids
Comfort items

If you receive home health services, contact your provider before evacuating to plan for care at the shelter.

To ask about a medical needs shelter, call the DPH Care Line at 1-855-472-3432.
Transportation can be arranged after you call.

At the Charles Lea Center, our Case Management Department proudly supports more than 1,300 individuals across the Upstate of South Carolina, most of whom live in their communities alongside their families. Caring for a loved one with differing support needs can be challenging, and for many of the people we support, the holidays would look very different without the kindness of others.

That’s why the Charles Lea Center Angel Tree is so special. Each year, the Angel Tree supports individuals receiving Case Management services who need a little extra help during the holiday season. This year, our Angel Tree is helping to bring joy to 96 individuals through the gift of thoughtful, meaningful presents.
Because of the incredible generosity of our CLC staff, community members, and the Charles Lea Center Foundation, we were able to share the true magic of Christmas, one act of kindness at a time. Thank you! 💚💚💚
