Speaking Down Barriers

Speaking Down Barriers Providing encounters that transforms our lives together across human difference for healing & justice

Our vision is of an America where all people are confronting and healing the roots of difference, including race, gender, class, religion, national identity, and sexual orientation. Rather than our differences be a source of division, they are the source of our collective strength. Speaking Down Barriers transforms space and co-creates community beyond the intersections of difference through facilitating gatherings, training, performances, and consultation.

What happens when the way we feel isn’t reflected in the way we look?

Join us for a community conversation exploring the many faces of illness and the experiences that often go unseen. Together, we’ll discuss medical mistrust, cultural insensitivity in healthcare, and the ways people navigate systems that don’t always see or understand them.

This gathering is an opportunity to share stories, build understanding, and explore resources that support more compassionate and equitable care.

🌈🖤❤️💚 Happy Pride Month and Happy Juneteenth Month from Speaking Down Barriers! 💚❤️🖤🌈

June invites us to celebrate freedom, resilience, identity, joy, and belonging.

Throughout this month, we honor LGBTQIA+ communities, Black history, Black liberation, and the many people who have fought, organized, created, and dreamed of a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

At Speaking Down Barriers, we believe that beloved community is built when we make space for one another, celebrate our differences, and commit ourselves to collective liberation.

May this month be filled with reflection, celebration, community, and joy.

🎨✨ Look at what community created! ✨🎨

Just a few of the beautiful pieces completed during our Mothers & Others Paint & Sip this weekend.

Each canvas tells a story, reflects a unique perspective, and reminds us what can happen when creativity, connection, and community come together in one room.

We loved seeing everyone put their own spin on the artwork and make it their own. 💜

Take a moment to celebrate these amazing creations and the artists behind them!

More photos and highlights from this incredible event coming tomorrow.

🎨☀️ Something creative is returning this summer… ☀️🎨

SDB Arts Camp is back June 15th–19th!

For the past few years, this camp has been a space for youth to explore creativity, expression, imagination, and community through art and storytelling. Every year we are reminded just how powerful it is when young people are given space to create freely and be fully themselves.

We’re excited to gather again this summer for another week of joy, learning, and artistic expression.

✨ More details coming soon. Stay tuned!
