Throwback….

Before four published books and another one on the way, there was simply me, a pen, some paper, and something to say.

I didn’t know then where all those words would take me. I just knew I loved to write.

Looking at this picture now makes me smile because some things really don’t change.

I’m still writing.
I’m still creating.
And apparently, I’m still holding the pen. 🖊️

This was my very first book. 💙

Daddy, Do You Love Me? was written for girls whose fathers chose not to be a part of their lives. I wanted them to know that another person’s absence never determines their worth.

What surprised me most is who embraced this book. Boys connected with it. Adults reached out to tell me it helped them process childhood wounds they had carried for decades.

That’s when I realized something…

Healing doesn’t have an expiration date.

As I count down to my birthday on October 27, I’ll be sharing the story behind each of the books I’ve written and the lessons they’ve taught me.

SAIYL 2026 is officially a wrap!

These students challenged me in ways that reminded me I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing.

They pushed me to remember:

These young people need what you have. They need guidance. They want to lead. They want to excel. And while they are still developing and will sometimes make mistakes, our hope for their future is the very reason we must continue showing up for them. In fact they are our future.

This summer was filled with unforgettable experiences—from college visits a VIP tour of the State House, exploring the City of Spartanburg through tours and our annual visit to the beautiful Spartanburg waterfall.

But the greatest part was helping these students understand what leadership looks like in everyday life:

* Offering a confident handshake
* Advocating for themselves
* Speaking up so they can be heard
* Presenting themselves as leaders
* Thinking creatively and embracing innovation

That is what I love about being a Teen Facilitator at the Spartanburg Academy for Innovative Youth Leaders (SAIYL). We do not simply talk about leadership—we give students opportunities to practice it.

At the conclusion of their capstone presentations, my supervisor and the students surprised me with a card and beautiful flowers. It was the perfect ending to an incredible summer and a meaningful reminder that the work mattered. These young people deserved every lesson, challenge, and word of encouragement I was able to pour into them—and they gave just as much back to me. They are not simply future leaders; they are leaders right now, and they are definitely ones to watch.

Your outfit is cute. You look cute. But the expression on your face tells a different story. What was happening in that moment
Here’s the Positive: regardless of what was happening in that moment, on that date, in that photo… you’re still here.

Recognize where you were. Appreciate where you are. Look forward to where you’re going.

Your next moment may just become your best moment.

Never give up. And never let what’s behind you dictate the success that’s waiting in front of you.
