Hi, Spartanburg! I’m Amanda Richardson, the new Executive Director of the Spartanburg Science Center, and I couldn’t be more excited to be here.

I’ve spent my career working in nonprofits, including time in conservation, and I’ve seen it over and over: when a kid (or an adult for that matter!) holds a living thing, or sees how something works, suddenly the whole world gets bigger.

That’s what happens here every day, and what a joy it is to be a part of it!

I’m grateful to build on the foundation laid by Founder John Green, Mary Levens and many others, and to our staff and board for making me feel at home.

Come see for yourself! We are open Thursday through Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Chapman Cultural Center. I’d love to meet you 💚

It’s hard to put into words the legacy of an educator like Mary Levens, who after decades in our local school system, spent another decade leading the Spartanburg Science Center as its Executive Director. 💙 💚

Among many other accomplishments, Mary expanded the reach of the center, brought it successfully through the pandemic, and began a nationally recognized aviation program.

Join us in congratulating Mary on her retirement, and celebrating what will now be known as the Mary A. Levens Spartanburg Community Aviation Program. ✈️

Congratulations Mary! 🎉

Please share in this celebration with us by wishing Mary the best!! 👇
