Our SEF donors are so valued and appreciated! Your generosity helps hundreds of students each year enjoy educational experiences that wouldn't otherwise be possible, the "Extras for Education", so, THANK YOU! This time, your donations provided a transportation grant to the zoo for these middle school students:

Our 7th grade ELA students (158) completed a research project on zoo exhibits. They researched an animal, created a website for that animal, and then designed an exhibit. The exhibits were required to meet the needs of the animal, zookeepers, and visitors. At the zoo, the students evaluated exhibits and made sure to visit the exhibit of their chosen animal.

2026 Sparta Education Foundation Scholarship Winners Announced

On May 5, 2026, Sparta High School celebrated the accomplishments of the class of 2026, at their annual Awards Night. The Sparta Education Foundation (SEF) partners with families to provide annual scholarships to local seniors.

SEF / L. Edmond Eary Jr. MD and Athena S. Eary Scholarship Award: Scholarships for students graduating with the highest GPA ($2,000) and second highest GPA ($1,000). These are to be used for college tuition only, as students pursue their post-secondary education and were awarded to Carson Wood (Valedictorian) and Girum Merriman and Alanna VanStrien (Salutatorians).

SEF / Debbie Tramper Memorial Scholarship Award: This is a $1,500 scholarship for students interested in pursuing a degree in the "helping fields", such as teaching, nursing, social work, etc. and was awarded to Alivia Roberts and an additional $500 scholarship for students interested in pursuing a trade was awarded to Jaiden Baldini.

SEF / Catherine Richmond Health Sciences Scholarship: This is a $1,000 scholarship for students entering a health-related field and was awarded to Savannah Hatchew.

SEF / Glenn Burgett Memorial Scholarship: This $1,000 scholarship was established to honor an SHS student who is not only involved in athletics, but has also demonstrated outstanding citizenship and was awarded to Kaydence Hanna.

SEF / Maggie Brown Memorial Scholarship: This is a $500 scholarship for students interested in pursuing a degree in the field of education and was awarded to Alyssa Drent.

The Sparta Education Foundation (SEF) was founded in 1991, based on the belief that Sparta students should not be limited to minimum standards due to a lack of state funding for education. Since that time, many Sparta Area Schools students have benefited from SEF-funded grants that provide the "extras for education", but still the need continues.

The SEF's mission is to help provide creative, progressive and innovative educational opportunities for our students and staff which are beyond the normal operating budget of the school district.

THANK YOU SEF Donors! Together, we're "Providing Extras for Education" and fulfilling our vision of Inspiring Learning, Empowering Success. You are truly making a difference in the lives of all learners and we appreciate your support.

Your generous donations enabled us to provide a grant which covered a field trip and transportation for the We Rock the Spectrum field trip for our ECSE Students from the ECC Building. We Rock the Spectrum – Grand Rapids was founded to provide a place for children of all ability levels to play and grow together. As the only kid’s gym that offers an inclusive philosophy, they have found all children can benefit from their uniquely designed sensory equipment that is specifically designed to aid children with sensory processing disorders.

Our invaluable donors helped us provide a transportation grant to Mr. Smith's Personal Finance students and we are so grateful for your generosity! What an incredible opportunity for these students to learn real life skills on April 22. THANK YOU! Together, we're "Providing the Extras for Education".

Our seniors were so fortunate to be able to attend the JA Finance Park. Students learned about budgeting and personal finances. JA is an amazing interactive experience and students are able to have rich conversations with adults and peers regarding their finances and budgeting before they need to create their own budget as an adult. We had over 100 Sparta Seniors who would not be able to experience this without your support! Thanks from all of us at SHS!
