🌟Company Spotlight!🌟
Ben Lomand Connect began its business in Warren County in 1950 as the Ben Lomand Rural Telephone Cooperative. The Ben Lomand Rural Telephone Cooperative originated from the need to fix the mismanaged telephone system in Warren County. In October 2, 1952, the Ben Lomand Rural Telephone Cooperative became incorporated with help from the Warren County Chamber of Commerce. From there, the business expanded throughout Middle Tennessee and eventually expanded further into the Upper Cumberland when the Falling Water Telephone Cooperative in White and Van Buren Counties united with it. Throughout its history, Ben Lomand has remained committed to providing the communities they serve with the infrastructure they need and the employment opportunities that they deserve.

In the present, Ben Lomand Connect offers fiber and broadband internet, digital tv plans, and voice services. In all these services, Ben Lomand excels at offering unparalleled quality and reliability. To learn more about Ben Lomand, please visit their website, https://benlomandconnect.com/. Thank you for supporting White County, Ben Lomand!

Today’s Liberty Square Celebration is in honor of local Bluegrass legend Lester Flatt. In 1945, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs were both members of Bill Monroe’s famous band, Bluegrass Boys, which helped in establishing the iconic Bluegrass style that we know today.

Together, Flatt and Scruggs went on to create songs that were included in popular media of their time. For instance, their song “The Ballad of Jed Clampett” became the theme song for the show The Beverly Hillbillies.

In 1969, Lester Flatt formed his own band called Lester Flatt & the Nashville Grass. Throughout its history, it included members like Josh Graves, Roland White, Marty Stewart, and Blake Williams.

Lester Flatt also ranked among the earliest Bluegrass performers to play in Carnegie Hall, and he made frequent appearances at the Grand Ole Opry too. In 1985, Flatt and Scruggs were both inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1991, Flatt was inducted into the International Music Hall of Honor. In 2008, he was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. On May 23, 2009, Flatt became officially inducted into the Sparta, Tennessee Bluegrass Hall of Fame.

Through the Liberty Square Celebration, and Sparta’s continued tradition of Bluegrass music, Lester Flatt’s legacy still lives on as a cherished aspect of this community’s heritage.

For more information on the life of Lester Flatt, please visit City Hall’s webpage at https://www.spartatn.gov/lester-flatt.
